I have one for each girl and ran them while they were sick. I know people recommend to run them nightly during winter to help with the dry air...but man, it's a total pain to have to unplug and clean them every day or two! I think I may pack them up and just use if needed..

Every night. It's a pain, and truth is we probably don't clean it as much as we should, but we don't have a whole-house humidifier, so our house gets REALLY dry in the winter.

Yup because the air is super dry and you can tell on DS's skin no matter how much lotion I lather on him!

Yes, we use one in my son's bedroom and one in our's. My husband takes care of them but I know it is a pain to refill and clean. I don't even feel like it works in our room because the room is large and we have to keep the door open for the dog.

We installed a humidification system when we moved in. So much easier and not terribly expensive. $250 I think.

We do, based on the relative humidity in her room. We have s temperature sensor that indicates humidity, too, so it's easy to glance at and decide.

@sorrycharlie: I've heard it's more than that. And I think it depends on the size of your home / unit. It's like an add on to your HVAC system.
We use the boiler for baseboard heating so dryness is not as big an issue. But we do run it fairly regularly during the dead of winter.

@sorrycharlie: there is a line in from the water supply and this thing attached to the site of our furnace. We have a forced air system. It doesn't get the humidity up as high as a stand alone humidifier but it really does help. If the girls have colds I'll probably move in a portable unit, bit for the healthy days it's just the right amount of humidity.

@oliviaoblivia: I'm surprised you guys have one in the east! We recently got one hooked up to our waterline. It cost about $500 including installation. I still feel like it's not enough though and have a standalone one in DS's room.

Yup! DS has a cold now so we just started using his in his room every night. It's a total pain in the ass but it's worth it to make sure he sleeps comfortably, aka, does not wake me up in the middle of the night

@sorrycharlie: regberadaisy and I both work in the construction industry. Suppliers typically give a trade discount too entice us to use their companies or products on our projects. I get discounts on furniture, tile, kitchen and bath fixtures, appliances, flooring, that kind of stuff.

We have a humidification system but have a stand alone one for LO's room when needed.
