Sunscreen is so expensive I hate throwing it away! But I've read sunscreen is only guaranteed effective for a year. Do you go by that rule? Do you toss them after a season?

@winniebee: No I keep them until they run out! But we do use sunscreen most of the year so I don't really keep track of which one I bought when. I am sure for grownup sunscreen I have used it for more than a year and it still worked!

I go by the expiration date. We have some I bought this summer that say 2017 so I'm gonna keep using them.

Yikes. I have some pretty old ones for DH and myself. I suppose the kids ones are not as old. It's so expensive!

I go by the expiration date. We use a lot, so normally it's never an issue. The only ones we have a hard time using up are our face sunscreens or our super-high SPF we use for all-day hiking. I know what "they" say about high SPFs, but here in AZ.... lather up!

If I opened and used it, I toss it out. If I buy it the end of season on sell, I just make sure the expiration date is good until the end of the following summer and store them in a closet.

I save it for the next summer but try to use it up early in the season, unless it looks weird. Dh saves his forever. I only get mineral stuff for me and LO and Dh likes the chemical stuff and thinks it's fine I keep it.

I keep them until they are empty. If they don't work, I'll toss them then.

We use it pretty frequently in FL so it is almost always gone within 5-6 months

We use them until they run out, which isn't usually too long. We've occasionally found some we forgot about and tossed because it was so past the expiration date.

We only use them a few months out of the year here so I buy new ones yearly but keep the old ones in diaper bags as back up. My Daycare usually give back last year's and ask us to bring new ones in.

Yikes, I hope ours don't expire by next summer! It was so expensive for a little tube for DD!

I buy new every year. But we do use it a lot, so there isn't a ton left over. If it was left out in the heat, I would definitely replace it.
