Grocery store.

I'm from the midwest and we call it the grocery store, market to me is the Farmer's Market.

I'm also from the midwest and say grocery store. Sometimes I call it the supermarket, but only rarely.

A piggy-back question: Do you say you're going grocery shopping or food shopping? My best friend mentioned she was going food shopping and someone on her Facebook commented that only East Coast people say "food shopping." (I say it, too).

I say grocery store and I have always lived on the west coast.

Normally grocery store ( from the midwest) but living overseas, at least in Japan, everybody says supermarket.

I say grocery store and my husband (from CA originally) says market. I only say market if I mean the farmers market.

I never say "food shopping" - I hate the way that phrase sounds. It’s like nails on a chalk board to me.

I just call it supermarket if it's a larger chain store. If it's a smaller mom and pop store, I call it grocery store. Market means farmers market to me.

Same as @j0s1e267. I'm from Southern Cali and I usually say the name of the store (Vons, Ralphs, Trader Joe's) or I'll say supermarket.
