I didn't last year.

Sort of? LO is thin so she normally fits into the ranges longer (she's 12 months and still comfortably fits into BG 6-12 months). I got her 12-18 months in her jackets/coats because she'll be 15 months when it starts to cool off and presumably into that size by then. 6-12 wouldn't last all winter and 18-24 would be huge.

For D, I do. He grows fast and coats are expensive. I'd rather he wear one all year.

@lawbee11: I don't think you are sizing up. Predicting what she will be in when she needs the coat.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Smurfette: Ok that makes sense. Then no I didn't! I think the jacket would swallow her if I sized up.

nope, because I like them to fit nicely :). I might, though, if I only had one child! it helps me to know that the coat will be worn again by his younger brother the year after :).

@Smurfette: So what size jacket are you getting? I've been trying to figure this out for Xander, haha. He'll turn 2 over the winter, so I'm thinking an 18-24 or 2T for a jacket...

@Adira: I tried on a light weight jacket I got in the spring, 18-24 and it is still big on her. So I think that should work for the whole winter. We don't need anything heavy till Dec/Jan. I am think 2T would be way to big on her.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, Xander fits in 12-18 perfectly now, so I know 18-24 will be big on him, but maybe perfect for winter. Can't believe we're thinking about this already... it's August!!

@Adira: Yeah but it will be here before you know it. We aren't going to the beach for another month, so it does seem crazy looking for winter coats, but I want to decide what I want and them watch for sales.

Now that she's a little older, yes. But I think last year's winter coat still fits. I'm not so sure about her old snowsuit though.

No but he's a small kid so things tend to be bigger on him. Last year he was 18 months in November but he wore 18m size coat until April. He is now 27m and will wear 2t for the winter.

No, I get a jacket in his size, with the sleeves that you can "take down" and elongate.

Depends. In winter I'd definitely make sure the coat can fit over multiple layers.

This year, I did. Her coat isn't ginormous, but she has room to grow and I'm hoping she'll get 2 winters out of it. She's almost 3.5 and I bought her a 5T from Gap.

@Smurfette: depends, for snow suits, yes. I'd rather have them bulky to reuse the next year because snow suits are expensive.
pomelo / 5469 posts
Nope...size down if at all because coats/tops seem to run big on her for some reason!
pineapple / 12526 posts
We are. She has a 2t-3t peacoat from last year (she was wearing 24m when i bought it) and Im buying her a 4t heavyweight snow coat.

Nope, he's thin so larger sizes swim on him. I always buy his current size. ETA and I hate when things don't fit him properly.

No. Our winters are so long anyway (end of Oct-beg of April) so he definitely gets enough use out of it before he outgrows it.

Yup. A good winter jacket is expensive so I always size up. Her 3-1 from last year will still fit this year.

i do with charlie but not olive. it is too baggy on her if i size up. charlie's jackets always last him two years. but i guess even if it lasted one year, he wears it everyday for at least 6 months.

we did! got 3T for fleece, but our winters are short and i hope to get two seasons out of them.

No. My LO is thin so jackets are baggy to start with, and I feel like loose fitting clothes are more likely to snag on thing and end up getting pulled/torn or stepped on and getting dirty anyway (which defeats the purpose of making it last longer). Instead of sizing up to get more wear, I just plan on DD#2 re wearing them. I try to buy classic jackets (like solid color North Face fleece, a navy polka dot Gap pea coat, etc.) that will still look stylish on her little sister two years later and can be accessorized differently for each girl.

I do for both kids so far. My DS will be wearing his coat from last year and my DD will wear one that is a size large this year, with sleeves rolled.
pomelo / 5720 posts
I probably will this year. DS is 80% for height so his tops tend to need to be a size up.
