My son has 3 teachers at daycare. I'm wondering if we should tip them or get them a gift/giftcard for the holidays. He seems to really like them and I really do!

I think a gift or gift card is a great idea! I worked in a daycare and was a nanny for several years and always loved the appreciation of a nice gift. Heck, money would be nice too Taking care of kids is a ton of work. I wouldn't say you would need to go overboard but maybe gift cards to a coffee shop or Amazon since its pretty universal.

@littlek: you changed your name! How much will you give and where to?

we gave cash last year and it was very much appreciated so we'll do the same this year. we gave $100 each to the two teachers and $50 to the assistant.

Yes, we give them $50 each in gift cards because there are so many of them. I think I must've given out almost 10 gift cards last year!

I think we're going to give something. The teachers are so exceptional, they're like an extension of me. We will probably give $25 to the main teachers and $10 to the helpers.

So he has 3 teachers, plus there are 2 directors (owners) Do you think I need to give to the owners, too?

I plan on baking 3 kinds of cookies and giving each a platter of them with some cash tucked away in a card.

@winniebee: I wouldn't give anything to the directors. They own the place and probably take home a lot more than the teachers. That's just my guess.

@winniebee: We are getting each of them a $50 american express gift card. I wanted them to be able to use it anywhere they wanted to.
I'm thinking about baking cookies and leaving them at the front desk for everyone to enjoy (hopefully! depends on how good they taste ;))

This is challenging for us, because LO is in daycare only one day a week so I'm not quite sure what is appropriate to give her 5 teachers. Our aunt takes care of her 4 days a week and we are going to get her a sizeable gift. For the other teachers, I was thinking a little bath and body works set (loofah, lotion, shower gel) along with a $10 gift card. Is that too cheap?
@littlek: I was thinking about baking cookies or some other baked goods as well!

You are all making me feel very cheap. The first year we gave each a $10 giftcard to a local bookstore the second year I knitted each one a scarf (5 teachers first year and 3 second year).
This year we've switched to an in-home sitter and will be giving her a nice gift of money.

@andrea: and you said I was generous!! haha!
I would give them a gift because I know it'd be appreciated.

@Alivoo01: oh. But gift baskets in lieu of CARDS still seems way more generous!
