We stopped bringing our dogs with us when DD was born, it's just too much to have to take care of the kids AND the dogs (two 70+lb boxers). We either kennel them or leave them with family.
IL's and SILs family always bring their dogs everywhere and I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

We take our dogs to my MILs, which is a 4 hour drive. Otherwise I don't like to take them. It's kind of a hassle.

It depends where we are going and if bil can watch our dog. We are going away to a rental house with bil and it doesn't allow dogs so I think I'm going to hire a dog walker instead of kenneling.

We do. Our one dog would probably die if she was in a kennel (fragile 4lb diva!) and our family is 3 hours away. We are an hour in to a 5 hour road trip with them right now.

We don't have a lo yet but we are about fifty fifty. Our dog does great in the car so if it is a dog friendly place we take him- so my in laws, camping, long weekends if the hotel takes dogs etc. But he is more likely to get boarded if we have lots of things planned for the weekend or is it's just not a dog friendly place. We don't fly with him though so it has to be a road trip. Once we have a baby it will depend on how they do in the car together. Hopefully he can still go lots of places with us- we love hiking with him especially.

My in laws watch them if we go anywhere. Too much hassle with both boys and dogs.

We bring our pup everywhere unless we're flying. He's a flat face so it's not safe for him to fly. My parents watch him in that case. He's pretty small at 20 lbs and a good traveler.

We took ours with us to the beach (an 80lb Lab & 45 lb. Rhodesian Ridgeback mix). I would never have considered it if they weren't older and really well-trained. The car ride was the only bad part, but our Lab slept with his head on our son's carseat the entire way, which was super sweet

We try to take our dog with us wherever we can, but we've got family to watch her if there is somewhere she can't go. She is fantastic in the car, which makes life easy!

We have a 50 pound pointer, and she always comes with us to visit family (4 and 7 hours away). She loves car rides, and the families love her!

@PermaStudent: English! She is either a full blood pocket pointer (so smaller), or a mix. We arent sure, because she was a stray. Her personality is aaallllllllll pointer, though! Do you have one?

He stays with my parents or if they are going our of town too he gets kenneled with my parents' dogs.

As long as we're driving and can get a pet friendly place, he comes! Although my parents are moving cross country soon and I'm debating trying to get him certified as a service dog so he can fly with me too...

We always take our dog when we drive to ILs, 17 hours away. We haven't driven since having kids though, but I imagine he will still come with!

We only take our dogs when we go to our ranch, otherwise they stay at my parents' house (aka doggie Disney World) or if they aren't home, with a dogsitter.

We traveled with our cat the one necessary time when we moved back to the US. Never. again.
