Ugh. I don't do it a lot, but I do it enough that my DD has picked it up.
Gotta stop!

I have to speak in front of groups often at work, so this is something I'm always trying to pay attention to. I've gotten a LOT better over the past year, but an 'um' still sneaks in from time to time.

@MsLipGloss: This made me laugh cause I can but can't picture it.

@Smurfette: I don't usually say it at work (although I let a huuuuuuge one fly today!). I say it soooo much when I am talking to hubs. And when I drive (without LO). Have mercy!

No. I have to talk to professionals on the phone and leave messages for them, it sounds so unprofessional to leave a message with um, can you, um... Call me um, back? Haha
I had to make a conscious effort to stop that though!
@MsLipGloss: I totally drop the f bomb way too much. That is going to have to stop before L gets old enough to say it!

I used to, but made a concerted effort to stop doing it and think about what I say before I say it...I definitely say it a lot less now!

I don't think I'm big on "ummm..." but I know I say "like" too much.

I took a Toastmasters course in high school, and it helped me eliminate a lot of filler words, especially when giving a speech. I became much more aware and would pause in conversation if I was tempted to use a filler.

Nope. I read that people who talk with their hands use fillers less. I talk on the phone a lot and I've found that gesturing helps a lot.

I try not to. It always made me laugh when I was growing up and my parents went to parent teacher conferences he would come home with papers marked up from counting how many times my teachers would say um.

Not too much. In college, they make you take a public speaking course and they always stress how saying "um" too often is unprofessional and annoying. They told us to replace the word "um" with a moment of silence if we're trying to gather our thoughts. The class would count how many times you said "um" during your speech and sometimes, it got embarrassing!!
Recently, I catch myself ending my sentences with "so". Weird and no idea where that came from!! I used to end my sentences with blah, blah, blah as in "and so for and what not". My manager called me out on it and I got docked in my professionalism area of my performance review. Ouch!

No, but I find myself saying "like" a lot and I HATE it. I've been trying to make a conscious effort to minimize filler words. It's tough when I'm nervous, though!

I used to all the time. I think I've been better about it!
