We do, but I just run it through the dishwasher once a week and it stays clean.

Yeah, it's nasty. I like @rattles: idea though and will give that a try.

We have a toothbrush holder with no bottom on our bathroom wall. It needs to be wiped off often.

Yes, and it gets super gross! I hate it but haven't come up with a better plan.

Yea, although I don't feel like it gets terribly gross too fast. I just run ours through the dishwasher periodically, which my husband finds weird haha.

No. We have electric ones & when it's off the charger it stands on its own. Mr. Bird has the same but his is gross. I wash & dry mine after each use. If you do that it won't get yucky because there's no moisture running down it (ewww)

Nothing grosses me out more than the inside of a toothbrush cup. *gag*

we have an oxo thing where you stick the toothbrushes in the bottom, so they're kind of standing upright. I run it through the dishwasher regularly.

We used to, and it was disgusting.
Now we have something like this, which is good but it still gets nasty too. Only now we can see it getting grosser and grosser....

No. Our electric toothbrushes just stand upright on the counter. So we clean the counter!

Yes, and it's soooo nasty. WHYY does it get that way so fast?? Argh
coconut / 8079 posts

I have an electric toothbrush but I put LO's toothbrush and my tongue scraper thing into a cup. I actually just bought a nice glass one that is dishwasher safe because I was too lazy to hand wash the plastic cup.
@mrs. bird: I am like your husband, and my DH is like you! DH saw my toothbrush base and was like, gag! I need to get into the habit of cleaning mine after each use!

@Andrea: Same! Luckily the circumference is small so it doesn't leave too much nastiness. The other things on the counter, on the other hand....
grapefruit / 4085 posts
No we leave the brushes in the cabinet with plastic covers that fit over the brush head only. We change covers when we change brushes and nothing's gotten nasty yet.
grapefruit / 4089 posts
Whyyyy did I never think of putting it in the dishwasher? Ours is such a pain to clean because the only holes are toothbrush sized and the top doesn't come off. It does seem to get gross really fast!
pomegranate / 3872 posts
Yep and yep. I do a full clean of bathrooms every Mon so I clean it then. I'm fairly obsessive about drying off my toothbrush after every use but my husband will not get on board so it still gets gross. Drying off the brush and handle is the key.

@JerricaBenton: ooh great point on drying it off! Thanks!!

We have an electric one that we both use and it has a little stand with holders for the two toothbrush heads so it gets a little gross but not too bad. I usually just wipe it off when I notice any yuckiness.

I have tooth brush holders in 2 of our bathrooms.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
Yes and it's hand-wash only. I need to just replace it all together.
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
Nope, not ever since I discovered thousands of baby mosquitoes wiggling around in the water at the bottom of my toothbrush cup. I now use a toothbrush holder that I rinse and dry each use!

So one of the best moments of my SAHM adult life was realizing our 2x a month cleaning lady cleans OUT the toothbrush cups! I almost died!!!!!
