My SIL has a dishwasher but prefers to wash dishes by hand. I think that's crazy talk. If it's dishwasher safe, it goes in the dishwasher. I'm already washing bottles all the time, I don't need to wash dishes too.

If I could marry my dishwasher I would! Ok, I wouldn't... but it would be my secret affair :oP
I love having a dishwasher! I washed dishes by hand for years and cursed it every-single-time. It's so much easier for me to clean up after cooking and dinner time.

We used to wash by hand UNTIL the twins came along and generated lotsa bottles so we started to use th dishwasher. After just using it for 2 weeks, it broke down and could not get fixed for another 2 weeks! We missed it so much and was amazed and how dependent we got on it in such a short time!

DH and I lived without a dishwasher for six months and it sucked for us. I felt like I spent 45 minutes a day washing dishes, and for as little free time as we have, that was way too much.

we have a dishwasher but we dont use it. So far its just the two of us and I feel its washed better and cleaner if its done by hand. Maybe when the baby arrives that might change but for now the dishwasher just sits there unused.

Every other day we seem to fill that thing. I don't think we could live without it.

We have a dishwasher and I hand wash everything now. Our dishwasher just doesn't do a good enough job. It's a pain to hand wash the dishes every day though.

@Leialou: Our dishwasher isn't great either. I give everything a good rinse before I stick it in there.

I ONLY use the dishwasher. DH will hand wash things but I definitely prefer not to!

Words can not begin to describe how excited I was when we bought our house and it had a dishwasher. For the 7 years before we bought it I did not have one in the places I weas renting. LOOOOOOOVE having one.

My mom does all her dishes by hand. We wash our dishes and then use the washer to sanitize.

OMG, dishwasher required in any place I live. I can not fathom dealing with dishes, I hand wash pots and serving pieces but I like the sani-rinse feature for drinkware and flatware, esp. when someone's sick.

I use it for the easy stuff, but all the big pots/pans stuff I want to be really sure are clean I do by hand.

Oh, I love my dishwasher. Even when I had a bad one, if it didn't get clean, I'd just wash it again. Now we have a Bosch, best dishwasher ev-AR!! And I find that I cook more when I don't have to hand wash afterwards.

OMG yes I would be so unhappy without my dishwasher! I don't even mind washing things, really--it's the drying that I hate! That's why DH does that part

We have a dishwasher but only use it to DRY the dishes! We wash everything by hand.
I used to think I could not live without a dishwasher, but it was impracticle to wash our small china set multiple times a day. I think the dishwasher will become more important as we have larger loads.

When we didn't have a good dishwasher, I would wash the dishes by hand and use the dishwasher as a giant drying rack.
Now that we have a good dishwasher, I can't remember how I was able to wash all those dishes by hand!

Our new rental house where we're moving this summer doesn't have a dishwasher. The first thing I plan on buying once we move there is one of those external dishwashers that hooks up to the sink. I couldn't possibly live without a dishwasher, and I'm pretty sure I'll feel ever more strongly about this once baby arrives.
