I've never taken DS to a public pool and someone invited me to take him tonight. Feels like such a dumb question but I have no idea, should I go buy a swim diaper or put him in a regular diaper?

You should buy some swim diapers. Regular diapers soak up too much and can weigh a LO down.

We use a swim diaper. A lot of pools require it. Regular diapers (disposables) tend to burst once they get that wet.

Swim diapers. Altho N pooped in our splash pool the other day and the swim diapers did not hold it all in. He wasn't wearing swim trunks though and has flat Asian butt so maybe the diaper just didn't fit right?

We use disposable swim diapers. Regular disposables will swell a ton and can burst and make big mess. And swim diapers don't really contain much...so that can be messy if #2 happens. Luckily my LO has never pooped in the pool and we swim in it a lot.

Swim diaper. The regular one will swell up and will weigh them down

For some reason, our swim diapers totally swell up! Maybe I'll try another brand. I tried the Huggies ones.

In my city it is required for them to wear a swim diaper AND a plastic cover over them ( we have the gerber plastic training underpants that we put over). So you may want to call and ask their policy.

We always use them. In my city if you don't use one and your kid poops the pool, you have to pay for the sanitization $1,500!

Yep! Target has Charlie Banana cloth swim diapers on sale (at least my Target does) and they work well.

@HLK208: I've seen it happen. The lifeguard gets on a hazmat suit (seriously) get a shovel and a bucket, picks up the offending turd, dumps a whole ton of chemicals and then closes the pool while they drain it and refil overnight.

I second the Charlie Banana reusable swim diapers -- they've worked great, though I can't vouch for their poop catching abilities, as we have yet to run into that problem.

@oliviaoblivia: I would SPRINT to get my kid out of the water if I saw a potential poop face just to avoid the $1,500 fine!
