I use my credit card all the time and hardly ever have cash in my wallet. My husband HATES it. He's kind of old-fashioned when it comes to money and thinks people should only use money that they have and not rely on credit. UGH.
How about you?

We use our credit card because it has cash back on everything. But we never carry a balance.
Gotta love free money!

Always use our bank card instead of cash.
Not the credit card though.

I always use my credit card. We get points on all of our purchases and I actually think it's more responsible because it makes it easier for you to track what you are spending your money on and get a good idea of your budget. That being said, we always pay off our credit card in full every month. Just because I'm charging to my card doesn't mean I'm spending money I don't have.

@mamamoose: I agree! And that's what I tell my husband (because I pay off my card every month) but he's always lecturing me about "Well, if you don't have the money right then and there, you shouldn't buy it.". I then will always bring up our mortgage and he says that's different. Yeah right.

@banana: Just tell him you DO have the money right then... you are just spending it a different way!
coconut / 8299 posts
@mamamoose: haha! I know right? It's not like I don't have the money. Maybe it's his way to controllling what I spent cause I can go pretty crazy with my card sometimes, especially on Amazon! lol

I use my debit card exclusively. Instead of using my pin I use it as a credit card because every time I do an extra dollar gets taken from my checking and put into savings.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Leialou: like the bank gives you a dollar? Or you have it set up so that when you use your card there's a auto transfer?

I use my debit card for almost all day to day stuff.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@regberadaisy It's a program you have to sign up for and they automatically transfer a dollar for you. I wish they gave us a dollar!

@Leialou: hahaha seriously! I would've switched banks! But that's a pretty neat way to save money though.

Credit card because we get points but we always pay the full balance every month.

I use an Amex charge card for every purchase and pay it off in full every month. We get so many points that we rarely have to pay for flights. We don't use credit cards though, only the charge card.
I never ever have cash and it's really annoying when a store won't take my card!

@Modern Daisy: what's the difference between a credit card and a charge card (this may be something I should know, lol)?

I always use my debit card. I never carry cash because I think it's easier to budget and track expenses with the card.

@banana: I almost always use my debit card but lately I've had small amounts of cash on me, where I used to have none

Always use my Costco Amex card to get the rewards and then pay it off at the end of the month. I like getting the rewards and it's done wonders for my credit score.

we both always use our credit card and then pay it in full each month. and get lots of points/cash back I usually only use cash if the purchase is less than $10 or if I'm with a group at a bar or restaurant and it's just easier to split the bill with cash

We mostly use our debit card, but we will also use our credit cards to get miles and just pay them off at the end of the month.
pomegranate / 3716 posts
Almost always the credit card which gives us AA miles... we've redeemed 2 trips to Hawaii (for the 2 of us) with the miles!

I use my bank card all the time, but not a credit card.

I use my credit card for as much as I can (so pretty much everything but mortgage and student loan payments!). I rack up a crap-ton of points each month which translates to free flights every year and free amazon and other gift cards for friends/relatives at Christmas. Also, it offers protections that debit cards don't (i.e., no one is getting access to my checking or savings accounts to wipe them out).
I pay my card off in full every month. I usually carry about $5 in cash on me, but often none at all.

Credit card whenever possible. It's all about accumulating the points, which we usually use towards travel! But we pay in full every month.

Wow, never realized how many people don't carry much cash nowadays. Glad I'm not the only one!

DH and I use our Amex as much as possible, so we get the points and purchase protection. We pay it off every month. I try to carry a little cash with me for small purchases where they don't take cards under a certain dollar amount.
Back when I was working and before I had my Amex, I would take out a certain amount of cash per week as my spending allowance. If I ran out of cash, I couldn't buy anything else. It helped me take a good look at what I was buying.

I always use credit card. But I do think that I spend less when I only use cash. It's just not feasible these days anyways since we shop online so often.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
I almost exclusively carry cash. I have a budget written out on paper each month and when we get our paycheck I take out the allotted amount for groceries, gas, clothing, etc - that way we never overspend in each category. All other bills - like utilities, we pay with our debit card/automatic withdrawal. I hardly ever swipe my debit. And I don't even own a credit card!
(except for 4 store credit cards I never use)

we put everything on our credit card that we pay off each month. like PPs, we get cash back at the end of the year and i also use mint.com for budgeting, so it's easy to keep track of everything. cash spending is harder for me to track!
coconut / 8299 posts
@miss-spunkin: Your system is exactly what my husband uses and what he wants me to use....Withdraw a set amount of money each month in cash and that's my allotted spend. He thinks credit cards are too easy to use and can lead to excess spending. I'm just too lazy to use cash. I like to swipe and be done with it! lol

I tend to use my card for everything, but I am starting to think I should get out cash so I don't spend so much all the time! Does anyone have a budget where you have a certain amount of cash withdrawal each month for different categories?
