After all these posts about expiring food... I'm wondering, do you use OTC meds after their expiration date? I usually will as long as it's not too far past the date. I've read multiple articles that have said the printed expirations dates are always really really conservative.

It depends what it is. I have an injection that I can't use after it expires. We called the pharmacy one day because it was expired and I had a really bad migraine and needed it, and they said it could be dangerous. But most pills I'll take.

Not if I can help it. I'm sure I've taken expired Tylenol without knowing it.

I'll use Tylenol if it's a month or so past, but not generally prescription meds. Usually medications start to lose some effectiveness/strength after the expiration date but some can start to break down and become dangerous.

I do with OTC drugs. For prescription, depending on how expired it is, I ask the hubs first. He worked in the pharmacy for over 10 years.

Maybe if it's by a couple months. Although, I'm probably guilty of taking expired meds and not knowing it.

I do, if it's within the year. If not, then I bring it to the pharmacy for them to dispose of it. They take prescrip and OTC stuff.

I usually google it to see if it's still safe... and it usually is!

I usually do if it isn't too far past the expiration date. I work in research and often our study medications get multiple extensions on their expiration date so I don't worry too much about it since they must be conservative to start with.

If it's not too far past, then I might depending on what it is. We normally don't catch that it's expired until it's WAY expired, though. In that case, we throw it out.

I have with excedrin/tylenol (preBFP)... not anymore (dont take anything now)

I don't (which is kinda funny, since I'll eat food that's past). I work in the pharmaceutical industry, and there are alot of studies that are done to figure out the stability of the drug. I want them to work and if they are past expiration, they might be breaking down.
