I love using GPS but I know some people who "do not trust it". I don't understand. It makes life so much easier even if it may not give you the most direct route every time.

The one in my car needs a new DVD, so I've been using an app on my phone, waze, it's kind of awesome! I might not end up getting a new DVD to put in my car nav system & just keep using waze

@Mrs. Bee: get the waze app on your iPhone! It is a gps app that does turn by turn directions with street names & everything! People even report things like when there is a speed trap & stuff. It's free & DH likes to use my waze app over his portable gps

@mrs. bird: Sounds good but I don't have enough data for that. I would get charged extra!

Getting a GPS helped my husband (boyfriend) at the time stop fighting in the car so we loved it. We just had ours stolen in my car. I generally don't need it much day to day. Happy to see that the new maps app has voice navigation.

@mrs. bird: oh cool! i will install it. will need it for apple picking!

I use the navigation feature of the google maps app on my phone and I really like it a lot, it does turn by turn directions just like a portable one and it is very easy to use. I use it relatively frequently and have yet to have a problem (at least when I am using the navigation portion.)

We use it all the time...it's especially great when there's bad traffic and we want to detour or just want to take the back roads.

Yes, but I get frustrated with entering things in. Hubby gets really frustrated when he tries to search for things and they are not showing up.

Yes, but I just use my phone. I rarely, rarely have issues with it.

I do use it to places I've never been to. I can see why some people don't trust it b/c my car tells me that I have to turn left to go to my house when I have to turn right. But 99% of the time it's right.

Love it! Originally we didn't plan on getting navigation in our car, but the dealer didn't have the car we wanted available. He did have it with a navigation system, and the price wasn't much more. It was definitely worth it for us, and we have used it on trips to Canada and Florida.

I use it all the time but sometimes it sends me to the wrong place and then I freak out big time.

We use Motion X GPS for the iPhone through Bluetooth in my car. It's a paid app, but I am excited to use the new GPS feature with iOS 6! Getting my iPhone 5 tomorrow

Always!!! I would get lost if I didn't. I have no sense of direction and I hate driving.

I had a GPS app for my iphone but it would drain my battery so much that I deleted it.
As for my old Garmin, I love it! But it has maps from 2009 and needs new maps so I might by another Garmin with unlimited map downloads.

We use to in our 2006 crossover but it wasn't an updated version so...it wasted our gas pretty frequently because roads would change. DH doesn't trust GPS but I think he hates my directions more

@Andrea: Because she's a whore! haha seriously I call it the GPS whore. She's always sending us in the wrong directions or down some side dirt road straight out of a scary movie.
I have not had good experiences with GPS. I prefer Google Maps or Mapquest!

I do use it on my phone but I dont rely it 100% because yes it can get you lost and frustrate you sometimes, especially if you just randomly lose signal or drive under a tunnel

Yup! Constantly! It's just so convenient for on the go especially when traveling to an unknown place.

I use it, but am always skeptical. My strategy is usually to look up the route on Google Maps beforehand and get a sense of where I'm going and what streets/landmarks I should be seeing, what general direction I should be going in so my attention can be on the road. Then I'll let GPS do its thing.

@regberadaisy: how old is your software? maybe it doesn't have good maps for your area or have you tried it elsewhere?
pomegranate / 3983 posts
Hardly ever. I find looking at a map a lot more efficient. Plus, now having looked at it enough times, I have a really good sense of where things are located in the city.
grapefruit / 4669 posts
I don't use it--not because I don't trust it, but because I think people are too reliant on it. I use a map of our city when needed (but I'm pretty good with directions, which I partially think is from not relying on GPS) and look up addresses on mapquest/google before I leave the house sometimes.

@bluestriped bee: Garmin has a Groupon out for $79 with lifetime maps today. I know this is an old thread but thought u might be interested. I just bought it and was pulling up GPS threads while I excitedly await mine.

@808love: Thanks for telling me about that deal but I bought a new Garmin on Black Friday.
