I'm trying to be more conscious about the chemicals my family is ingesting and making the move to Pyrex instead of plastic containers for heating up lunches and such in the microwave. When I looked to see how much they were I was shocked at the price. $60 for a 20 piece (really 10 b/c they count the lids seperately). Guess what doesn't go in your body doesn't come cheap...

I use Pyrex measuring cups and baking dishes but I buy the cheapie ziploc tupperware stuff that I can toss without guilt if I forget it in the back of the fridge. lol

Yes! I looove Pyrex. The only thing that really sucks is that when you warm up food in them, the whole thing gets soooo hott! But they are better than plastic containers because they don't hold in smells either, and don't stain!

Like mrs brewer mentioned, pyrex is awesome in that it doesn't stain nor retain the smell, but get extremely hot when you reheat them in the microwave. If I'm at home, I'll use Pyrex, but for work, I still use plastic ones because I don't have potholders at work.

I switched all my tupperware/plastic containers to glass containers. I got a bunch at TJ Maxx/Home Goods, and some from my registry via Crate & Barrel (these: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/set-of-12-storage-bowls-with-clear-lids/f33113)

IKEA has cheap glass containers too, I believe.

Does it have to be Pyrex or are other glass containers okay? We have some glass prep bowls w/lids from Kohl's that I love and also a set of slightly larger glass bowls w/lids that came from either Ross or Marshall's.

I need some more glass containers as well and was waiting for get another coupon so get some. We have some plastic ones - the glad snap ones and we like those for storing food but we never heat them.
I like pyrex because they double as cookware in addition to storage. They're made really well too. -

I LOVE Pyrex. Assuming you're looking on Amazon, I'd suggest buying 2 10 piece sets http://www.amazon.com/Pyrex-Storage-10-Piece-Clear-Blue/dp/B00005B8K5/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1352142947&sr=8-2&keywords=pyrex+20+piece+set than the 20 piece set. It is cheaper, and you end up with fewer of the tiny circles, which we use least often.
We use ours like crazy and have just added more and more of them - I use them to freeze stuff, lunches, leftovers, etc. I hand wash the lids. I just used a "bake and store" for the first time as well for lasagna, it was awesome!
If you want to price compare, I know Bed Bath & Beyond has them (20% coupon) and Kohls (coupons, depending on if you have their credit card).

We still use plastic for leftovers but we heat things up on plates - either paper or ceramic. I love my Pyrex baking dishes/measuring cups/bowls, though!!

i will warn that pyrex has changed over the years. someone told me (i haven't researched this myself, so i'm not positive this is accurate, but i believed them) there are two kinds & the old school better version is still made in the UK but, like most things, we use a cheaper version here in the US. we bought a set of martha stewart brand, it had a green tint that i liked, and i made a casserole, DH took it out of the oven and placed it on our stovetop (which hadn't been used so it was a little warm from the oven being on, but wasn't hot or cold), where it exploded into tiny chunks of glass that went flying everywhere. fortunately he wears glasses & wasn't hurt, but it was a nightmare to clean up after & dinner was ruined. i'm still finding little pieces! so while i'd trust pyrex brand, i'd be weary of discounted brands.

I use Pyrex or glass for heating and plastic only for cold items. The main downside is that dropping a Pyrex is a huge PITA... Have had a few small ones fall out of my dish rack and it was terrible to clean up.. Small shards, fine particles etc. Scary with little babies crawling around. Now I'm hyper careful...

Yes! Use and love Pyrex. They can chip occasionally in the dishwasher, but other than that I have no complaints!

I have always seen great deals on pyrex sets the day after thanksgiving. I see them for $10-$20 (with mail in rebate) at our department stores. I have tons of pyrex. I have the small storage bowl, the mixing bowls, measuring cups, and bakeware. I love pyrex!

Yep, I'm a big fan of glass storing-ware. We do have some plastic stuff still, but as I replace it, we've been going with glass.

I like Pyrex, its easier to clean too. There's usually great deals on sets every now and then on Amazon and during black Friday Kohls or Target usually has a deal. TJMaxx and Home Good has individual Anchor glassware for a pretty good price too.

I have some vintage pyrex pieces I use, or we heat stuff up in a bowl. Our regular plates have metal edging on them so we can't use those. We have regular non-metal plates and bowls at work so I'll just transfer stuff from the plastic Tupperware to heat it up. I use plastic to store -- but not to heat.

I use those, they're awesome. My local homestore often sells them buy one, get one half off. They're not cheap, for sure. I just bought a few one month and then more here and there. I really like them. I also have little glass containers to put in my toddler's lunch box when we go out.

We use Glasslock and Pyrex. Got rid of plastic long time ago. They sell Glasslock at Costco!

Yep, I Pyrex is a kitchen essential! The only plastic containers we have is for DH's lunch, but they have plates by the microwave at his work, so pours his lunch onto those instead.
