We have 2 and I can't imagine ever using them! How often do you use your fireplace?
ETA- I just saw a similar thread from 6 weeks ago! Whoops!

We use ours very rarely, like once during the winter.

yep, all the time during the winter. dh buys a cord of wood and we usually burn through it. the one plus to MI winters

In the winter, I use it ALL THE TIME. It's nice to get the living room nice and toasty. Plus I love the ambiance of the fireplace.
This past winter, our furnace croaked, and the fireplace was a LIFE SAVER. Sooooo glad we have one!

I would use ours more if it weren't broken. It's a gas fire place but something is messed up in it so you can turn the switch on and nothing will happen. Come back 3 hours later and the fire is on. ugh.

We only used it once and that was because our heater unit went out and we got 17" of snow so nobody made service calls. We have a wood fireplace, and while I love setting it, I'm not a fan of the cleanup afterwards!

Our new place has one and that was one of the biggest selling points for us!

We use our all the time. We get wood for free (from relatives with propertyor on Craigslist) and use it a lot during winter. It helps us cut down on our electricity bill a lot!

We don't use ours. We have 3, and none of them have a fan to blow the heat into the room, so it all goes out the chimney (along with the warm air from our house!)

We will in the winter. Have to get it cleaned first. Also going to install gas logs so we can turn on and off when we want.

We use ours all the time in the winter. It's a gas fireplace, so doesn't involve much effort...just the flip of a switch. Our cat loves to lay in front of it on his back and get his belly all warm and toasty.

I wish we had one... if we did we'd use it all the time!! It's one of my requirements for the next house.

We do in the winter. It's a gas fireplace, but it's cozy and romantic, so we'll usually light it after DD has gone to bed.

We've lived here about 2 years and have used it twice. But I'm in Florida.... so we rarely have cold enough weather.

Never lol. When we moved in the inspector told us the blower was broken, so it doesn't blow hot air into the room making it pretty pointless. We keep meaning to get it fixed buuuuut it's Texas, whatev.

This was actually a deal breaker for me when we were looking for houses. I wanted one with a fireplace! We use it all the time in the winter and love it.

I want to, but we have a two sided fire place which is drafty and makes the whole house smell like campfire. After we get a fireplace door, we may use it more.

@hergreenapples: our dog who things she is a cat does this! lol! She will lay there until she is panting and her ears a pink before getting up and finding a cooler place to sit.
Ours is gas as well, and in our lower level. We have it on a thermostat so it comes on when the basement cools down and turns off on its own. I LOVE it. I even had it on last week in the evening.

We've lived in 2 places that had them and never used them. When we go to build, we'll opt out of it, and save our money, cause it's just not something that we use. We'd rather use that money on a bigger porch.

We've used it a few times over the winter. I don't like the smell or dry air afterwards though, so I try and convince DH not to light it if I'm there.

We used ours constantly this winter. It's my first apartment as an adult with a working fireplace. It made everything so cosy during the super long winter here.

We do, not often, but usually when it's super cold in the winter! FYI - super cold in southern California usually means 40 degrees.
