and if every other..how do keep the grease away?! I'd love to wash my hair every other (to save time, shampoo, water and money!) but my roots get pretty yucky.
ponytails don't work, because you can still see the roots

I'm the same way, I have really greasy hair. I shower in the morning, and by that same night I can already feel my hair getting pretty greasy. I don't think there is any way around it for me!

I have to shampoo and condition every day. I've never brought myself to try a dry shampoo because I just don't think it would do enough with how oily my roots get.

LAtely I've been showering every other day. It ain't a pretty sight, but I don't care! It's winter and I'm home all the time. Poor DH.
I usually just throw my hair up on non wash days. Hurmm. That's what I do on shower days too. Dang. Personal grooming obviously isn't high on my priority list anymore. Sad.

in the summer, i wash every day. in the winter, i wash every other day, unless i did something sweaty or if it rained or something where i feel dirty so want to wash my hair.... typically, i stay home and it's easy for me because i don't have greasy hair - sorry, no help.

Same here, I need to wash my hair every day. Sometimes, I use dry shampoo but it never looks as fresh.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
I have to wash and condition every day or it gets greasy and really just generally gross to look at. I can't even wash the night before or it will be greasy by lunchtime. I'll go a day w/o washing on weekends but by Sunday I have to wash it or I just feel gross.
nectarine / 2797 posts
I shower every day, but only use shampoo every 4 or 5 days. I use conditioner every day though. But my hair is super curly and dry, so I find it actually looks better when I treat it this way vs. washing every day.

I've got greasy hair too and it's really thin so it looks icky by the end of the day. By mid-day, my bangs start to look limp so if I have to go somewhere in the evening, I literally JUST wash my bangs in the sink and blow dry them. It takes like 5 minutes and makes a big difference!
I would LOVE to wash every other day too...

Every other. I could probably go 3 days without it getting greasy.

I tried baby powder when I was in hs..such a bad idea. I looked like I had the world's worst case of dandruff. it was an idea I read in probably Teen or 17 or YM, and I ended up having to shower and be late for the bus! lol..does dry shampoo work better than that??
apricot / 460 posts
I wash everyday. I have tried Psst, dry shampoo and I really liked it! My old hairdresser told me about it. It's at walgreens and MUCH cheaper than the salon dry shampoos.

I have to wash everyday because I have very fine, thin hair. Since getting pregnant I feel like I need to wash twice a day (I don't though) because it's super greasy. my stylist has suggested dry shampoo in the past but I've never actually used it because I hate buying products and then not liking them and products usually just make my hair more greasy.

Im going to be the gross one here and say I shower every single day but only wash my hair once a week. Yep. Once a week. Doesnt get oily looking or anything either & I dont wear products in it.

Definitely have to wash it every day or else I feel itchy and greasy. EW!
apricot / 495 posts
I wash it every other day. When I wash it daily my hair tends to get all frizzy and dry. I don't find that my hair is too greasy on day two. I guess it just have a less oily scalp. Also, I want to point out that when I went from once a day to once every other day, there was an adjustment period for my hair. It did feel itchy and greasy and gross for about a week and then my scalp started producing less oil and everything has been fine ever since. Some day I would love to go no-poo.
nectarine / 2458 posts
HAH! I wash my hair every 5 days, and even then it isn't greasy, but I won't go any longer then that. If I had straightened my hair I'll use dry shampoo on the last few days, if I'm wearing it "natural" (it's wavy/curly) I don't need the dry shampoo at all.
But, I have SUPER coarse hair. I get dandruff which has gotten worse during my pregnancy, but I don't think I've ever seen my hair greasy.

I wanted to add I do shower every day, lol, I just pull my hair back.
pear / 1639 posts
Every other day. My hair slowly got less greasy at it got used to not being washed every day. But, if its looking really greasy, I use my face powder. It absorbs oil, and is a brownish color, so it blends well.
pear / 1556 posts
I alternate between every day and every other day. It depends on the week and whether I am wearing my hair curly, straight or pulled back.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
I wash my hair maybe every third shower? It can get kind of yucky looking in between, but then after I wash it, it looks great! If I wash every day it starts to feel dry and look frizzy. I have really thick, dry hair, though.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
My hair is curly, so I usually wash it every other day otherwise it gets really dry and frizzy.

Most often every other day since I'm at home. If I'm going out to something more than errands and need to look presentable, I'll wash my hair that day even if I did the day before.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
Every other day (unless I've worked out - then its everyday). My hair doesn't really get horribly greasy until the end of day 2. So I either wash it that night or first thing the following morning.
pear / 1554 posts
Usually every other day, but sometimes I will skip an extra day if my hair looks ok.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
I have to wash it everyday or it gets really greasy. Sometimes I will let it go for a couple days if I know I am not going anywhere.
persimmon / 1202 posts
Mine feels heavy if I don't wash it daily. It doesn't start LOOKING greasy until the end of day 2, but it still drives me nuts.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
I usually wash everyday, but on those days I don't have time, I just sprinkle in some baby powder and it soaks up all the extra oil. it really works
hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts
Every day! My shower is my daily escape. I love washing my hair.
persimmon / 1194 posts
I shower every day and I usually wash every other day. every once in awhile I'll use dry shampoo since my roots are growing in and it's an oily mess at times.
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
Every other day or even every 3 days. I noticed that once my hair got used to not being washed so often, it no longer gets as greasy as quickly.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
I am so envious of some of you guys!
@chopsuey119: LOL. You have the excuse of a baby to care for, though - I don't have one yet, and I always just throw my hair up wet into a messy bun. It's just easier
persimmon / 1134 posts
I wash mine every other day, but I have thin, dry hair so it doesn't usually look greasy after skipping a day.
pomegranate / 3706 posts
I shower every day, but wash my hair about every 3 days. I have straight, blonde, fine strands of hair, but have a lot of it, and it just doesn't get very greasy. Your hair will actually produce less oil if you wash it less, too, so you can start with every other day and then push it another day--it's healthier not to wash it every day.
pineapple / 12526 posts
I can pretty much wash mine once a week, though it's usually more like 4-5 days. My hair is naturally very dry and washing even every other day really dries it out. I don't know where it came from, my mom has to wash hers every day or else she has a head full of grease.
grapefruit / 4554 posts
I wash my hair every other day. And I hate having cold wet hair in the winter, so it's a win-win for me.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
Usually, every other day. My hair is so thick that it takes 20 minutes to blow dry. Thankfully it doesn't get oily and still holds volume so I do a "every other day" schedule almost year round.
