I yell at my dog and I need to stop because my LO copies me!

oh gosh I have noticed the exact same thing!! I yell at him because he barks SO loudly that it's really the only way to get his attention. water does nothing. and now LO says, "none!" to him (no). oy.

Sometimes (when they are upstairs and being naughty and I am downstairs with LO). But I usually just give them the *srsbzns* voice . . . that is usually more effective than my yodling!

ugh yes! usually when they bark. which makes no sense .. they are loud so I'm loud back! I need to stop or baby is going to come out screaming the dogs names
squash / 13208 posts
Yes and I call her by my kids names - which they think is hilarious! oops!
coffee bean / 47 posts
Yes, when he barks.
DD now does it, and it's really sobering. It's become my goal to not yell at the dog. The barking infuriates me, so I need another solution.. lol
pomelo / 5678 posts
No. Husband does and I hate it! I did when dog was younger and still in training but she doesn't need to be yelled at anymore (she comes when I call and so on.)

@sorrycharlie: LO is my couch enforcer! OFF!
bananas / 9899 posts
Not often. Usually just sternly talking is enough for him to stop whatever he is doing and look at me with guilty eyes lol.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
I do sometimes when he does something he's not supposed to but he usually just looks at me like "Oh man you're talking to me and that is the best thing ever!"
Lol he doesn't understand discipline.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Yes when she deserves it (like trying to jump on table to eat food before I clear it off....) but I have gotten a lot better so LO is nice to her!
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
He barks so, so much when anyone comes in. He just gets crazy excited to see new people. The only way to make him stop barking and jumping around is to yell his name. Otherwise he's a pretty good boy. He's allowed wherever he wants, so I don't have to make him move or get off of things.

No, but we have a special discipline/displeasure sound we make (it's kind of like a harsh psst). When we first got them and they misbehaved we'd make the sound and also squirt them with a water bottle. Now we just make the sound.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@lovehoneybee: We do something similar with an "ehh ehh" sound for the dog. It gets his attention now without us needing to really raise our voice.
papaya / 10343 posts
Yes. I need to stop prior to having a kid I feel like. I don't yell at the cats but I do yell at my dog. Sometimes he just barks and barks and barks and barks and only shuts up if you finally yell at him GO LAY DOWNNNNNNNNNN.
I need to make him less psycho before the baby comes too.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
Yes I do. I also do this thing like AH AH AH NO! When she is doing something naughty, and LO has picked up on it.
nectarine / 2134 posts
No need for yelling. She knows when she's been naughty and does the "guilty dog" routine. If only she could exercise some self control!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
ahaha this made me lol.
I used to yell at him, but now I tell him to be quiet when we skype. lol. DD copies me.
pomegranate / 3872 posts
Aww yes! I feel so bad! I totally have to stop before LO picks up on it He can be so naughty though!
honeydew / 7586 posts
Only one of our dogs. Our pug listens pretty well but our Golden pretty much only listens if you yell at him.
pomegranate / 3113 posts
@mrs. 64: mine does too! The only times I yell at him are when he's scratching something he's not supposed to (rug or couch). The thing is, he does it precisely *because* he's not allowed, usually because he's mad at us for some reason, so the only way to get him to stop is to speak loudly and clap my hands at him. And then the stinker glares at me and tells me off.

One is deaf, so no point in yelling at her. I don't necessarily yell at the other, but if I look at him and say "Winston, that's enough," or "Winston, what is that" he'll generally stop doing whatever naughty thing he's doing, haha.
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
No. I might scream in pain if the boy jumps on my back and hangs by his claws. But I don't yell at them. I let DH discipline.
blogger / pomegranate / 3491 posts
Yep - when she barks. It doesn't really help, but it does scare C. I wish I knew how to stop her from barking so much. She never really did until little man was born, and it has only escalated over the course of the year. Ugh.
pear / 1799 posts
I yell at them when they're being insane. I really, really try not to ... but I can't help it!
papaya / 10570 posts
No, not really. I have a stern mum voice I reserve just for them though!!
papaya / 10473 posts
Only one of them. Our golden mix is (usually) an angel, as is one of our yorkies. Our other yorkie is a crazy, yapping, hyper mess. Our neighbor's little boy seriously thinks her name is "No, no Holly! Bad!" lol
papaya / 10473 posts
@Cherrybee: I could never yell at your puppies. Especially if they had a piece of bread on their heads. I would laugh too hard!
