I can't remember how old I was when I learned them.
My step kids don't know them 100%! I was a little surprised. What grade would that be covered in?

My daughter got them in songs (English and Spanish) at age two. So she knows them. She says she prefers winter months because she loves snow.

@Mrs. Jacks: cute!
I'm concerned. We were talking about family birthdays and they couldn't list them all in a row (Jan, Feb, March, etc.), the 11 year old skipped a few. 7 year old didn't know the answer to "what's the first month of the year?"
And they didn't know what month it currently is.

I teach pre-k and that's definitely something they should know by age 4-5. Even if they don't go to preschool, almost every kindergarten teacher I know goes over them every day!

@cmomma17: I agree that they are old enough to know that information. I would be concerned, too. Maybe you could work with them daily so they could catch up?

Thanks for confirming my worries guys. They go to a 'special' school in their home state (they don't live with us full time) and I'm fascinated by the moms choice to send them there. It seems like a lot of basic things like months and telling time are missed. My step daughter also greatly struggles with reading and spelling and we are worried about her because she's headed to middle school (6th grade) this fall.
