When we first starting having playdates, we would work them around our LO's nap schedules. We'd play until the kids got tired, then we'd race home to put them to bed!
Now that the kids don't nap at all, Bee and I will often get together with parents of kids a similar age for dinner + a playdate, all in one. All the kids will play together, while the parents chat, eat and drink wine.
It used to be tough to balance parenting and hanging out, but now that the kids are 5 and almost 7, they are happy to just spend time with kids their own age! It's so great, and we're really enjoying spending time talking to adults. Ahh... it's been too long!
Do your LO's playdates ever extend over into dinnertime?

In the summer we'll order pizza delivery to the playground and eat while the kids run around. It's becoming a neighborhood thing which is really fun.

yes. We go over to a friends house on Friday evenings a lot. We order pizza and the kids watch a movie. Then we leave and its usually close to bedtime

Yeah we did this last week - we went over early for dinner around 5:30 and let the kids play and then we get LO in his PJs for the ride home and just transfer him to bed when we get home. It was a late night for him though, so it resulted in a terrible Sunday! I might not let him stay up as late next time!

That sounds super fun!! We have had a couple of lunchtime playdates that have spilled over into dinner because the kids were all having an awesome time, but haven't scheduled a PM playdate yet since DD1 and all her friends are only 3. I think pizza and the park for dinner would be great!

We do this all the time with our group of friends and our kids are all 4 and under. We've been doing it since they were 12 months and we'd even put them down in pack n plays all around the house while we stayed up and hung out.
