My cat Autumn loves hair ties! She is super smart too, so she finds them no matter where I hide them. Last time, I walked into my room and found her looking for them under my pillow! She likes to let you know she has one too, she meows a lot and loudly to let you know she has something she isn't supposed to.

Lucky greets people she likes by throwing herself on her back and howling several times, I'm embarrassed for her.

Dutch is pretty normal. He smiles with all of his teeth bared, which can be scary.

My cat Spice loves licking plastic. Plastics bags, plastic wrap, you name it. Anything we buy has to get taken off the floor right away. I'm also convinced she has separation anxiety. I can't even go to the bathroom by myself!

My cat Cinnamon has other quirks. She loves licking fabric (i.e., reusable) bags. And chewing on any Christmas decorations; but only when they are getting put up, not while they're on the tree or mantle.

Cocker Spaniel- He loves the smell of people's breath (better keep your mouth closed around him), loves used tissues, he loves food and will eat almost everything edible, loves fresh fruit (one thing that I love about him since I love fruit, too). He is very quick to steal food if you have it out for a split second... though I heard this is a cocker spaniel thing. I think food obsession is common. Not sure about the other things I've mentioned is because of his breed. Oh, he likes to poop on our deck... like right outside of our sliding door. Not sure why he doesn't walk 5 feet to the grass. I think because he lived outside at his last home and so he'll poop anywhere. Yeah, one time, I took him into the city and he started pooping in the street as I was crossing the street with him. Luckily, I was about 1.5 feet from the curb but that was embarrassing. Oh, we don't usually have to worry about him chewing non-dog toys but he somehow managed to chew and destroy DH's glasses. Maybe he smelled ear wax or something on them so that's why he did that. Oh, along with the tissues, he will try to open up our closed bathroom trash. I think he is looking for tissues. We love him but he's a jackass sometimes. He's my baby and I hold him like a baby. Oh, he sleeps with his eyes open sometimes. His cuteness lets him get away with a lot of things.

Shar pei mix has been a bit traumatized from the frequent EMTs that would enter our house when DH would have call 911. Now if she hears a car or truck outside, she will bark! She hardly barks but hearing something outside will get her to be very defensive. She's all bark, though. Great guard dog. Should scare away burglars. Once she smells you, she is such a sweet dog. She has never bitten anyone before. Also, she does that when we have house guests, too. She'll bark a bunch of times throughout the night. I think she forgets that other people are in the house.

Both dogs have times of being needy and sometimes just independent. The Cocker is a people lover so is slightly less independent.

I love my dogs, though.

@Tanjowen: Yeah, we took our dogs home for Christmas. He got onto the table and got into the crab dip. My MIL had milk chocolate kisses in some of her gift bags and he found them. Luckily it was milk chocolate and so he didn't get sick. I feel like a bad dog owner but I moved a plate of chocolates on to the table that I swore I thought he couldn't get to. Yup, he managed to knock a chair over to get to the chocolate. It was milk chocolate again, luckily. We call him 'Swiper' because he will swipe your food.

Haha. OMG, your turkey. Yup, I can so see my cocker doing that one of these holidays. It's just time. He is so clever. Not sure how he managed to knock a dining room chair over.

@bluestriped bee: Hahaha, a chocolate lover! They are just determined little things. And I agree, they are so cute they get away with a ton. I think they are the cutest puppies on earth when they are little and have to stay away or I'm going to wind up with a 3rd dog.

@simplyfelicity: Ha. Just a taste: One dog will spin in circles if she sees another dog, but really doesn't care to "socialize". She only eats in 1 square foot of our house (when we moved her bowl, she grabbed a mouth full of food, and goes back to that one spot). She's not afraid of normal scary things (like the vacuum), but instead, she's very hesitant to come in the room if I have a pencil, or a glass of water. She won't go through one of our baby gates, but has no problem with the others.

Our other dog doesn't like walking on grass. She humps the other dog. The won't eat food out of anything but this one purple bowl we have. She will put herself into the corner, and just stare at nothing (which isn't creepy at all seeing as though our house is super old).

Believe it or not though, they are great with our baby.

Our beagle/Catahoula leopard dog mix is OBSESSED with lights/shadows. He will chase a shadow on the wall or floor or door or wherever frantically. Like, if I'm using my cell phone in a darker room and it casts a light on the wall, he'll go insane trying to get the light. Or when we he's outside and we open the screen door on the porch at a certain time of day and the sun casts shadows, he races back and forth chasing it. I've never seen anything like it! He is always on the alert for lights and shadows. It's crazy.

@littlejoy: Of course! He goes absolutely nuts. It's funny, but I also feel kinda bad, because it seems like he's tormented by it! After we put the laser pen away he will be tense and on alert for a loooong time waiting for it to come back! He has the most sensitive eyes ever or something.

My parents have a yorkie who barks at the TV weatherperson every time without fail. She could be sound asleep, TV on low, but as soon as the weather comes on, she is at full attention barking right at the TV. We don't know if it's the weather graphics or what (she barks at all the weather anchors, no matter their gender or what channel!) but it's totally bizarre.

Our oldest cat who will only eat a very specific type and flavor of cat food (I really hope they never discontinue it!), but she loves to lick plastic bags.

The middle cat is obsessed with a "lovey" (an old red blanket thing) and likes to bring toys up the stairs and then meow in a crazy way until you toss the toy down the stairs again.

The youngest one is weird because he is equally likely to scratch you or snuggle you. When he's in a snuggly mood, he likes licking toes.

Our dog doesn't have any really weird or funny quirks like some of the ones above, but she has to sleep under the covers and will get as close to your face as possible until you lift them up for her to go under. She slowly gets closer and closer until she gives you a headbutt!

She also has at least 10 tennis balls around the house. If one ball is stuck under the sofa or TV stand, she has to have that ONE ball and none of the 9 other will do, even though they are the EXACT same ball!

Sookie, our cat, takes LO's socks and carries them to her water dish or toilet...whichever is closest. She also takes q-tips, hair ties and bobby pins to the sink and toilet...which is kind of annoying when I really have to pee haha.

@loveisstrange: our cats love belly rubs, too. They will kick their way on their backs in circles and down the hallway to get you to rub in the right spot. One will get up multiple times to flop back down and present her belly for rubs. Not sure why she does this. Oh, but you can only use your fingers. If you try to use your foot, the world is coming to an end and they will kick and bite your foot off!

The dog in my avatar is the canine embodiment of a grouchy old man. He also likes to make the the air space above our house is clear by barking at any and all planes. He'll follow them to the end of the yard then strut back like he's done a good job, ha!

My dog won't poop if you are looking. You have to cover your eyes or look away. She checks (while pooping) to make sure you aren't tricking her several times.

My dog Winston loooves stuffed frogs. He has a million toys but if you tell him to get his Froggy he knows exactly which one it is (even if it's purple, or a weird shape...he just *knows* what a frog looks like). He is also very gentle with his favorite toys...I often catch him spooning his favorites, haha. He's also startled by his own farts. He doesn't fart often, but when he does he jumps halfway across the room with a look of terror in his eyes.

My dog that passed away recently was relatively normal, but the last few years of her life she started hoarding food--I promise we weren't trying to starve her! She would use her nose to nudge her bowl over behind or under furniture and then later whine constantly when she couldn't get it back out, haha. On one occasion, I shit you not, she pulled up the corner of the rug, knocked over her food bowl so the kernels fell out, and then covered them back up with the rug. I laughed for a long time when I saw that!
