I used to go twice a day in HS (omg) and daily in college. I looked so good but probably need to get my skin looked at! No tanning since having kids and really since I've been out of school.

Not currently. I did in college, and I looked so good! I am a ghost now. But not worth the health risks, so I will stay pasty.

I was a tanning whore - both in the sun bed and outside! I would slather myself in oil and bake all day.....
Stopped it all after college though!

@Mamaof2: oh I didn't even mention outside! I would slather in baby oil too!!

I grew up in So Cal, so yeah, I got a lot of sun. I'm a spray tan+SPF person now. I still lay out on vacation but I'm slathered up and hide in the shade most of the time. If i get tan, it happens mostly organically (during softball games, runs, etc)

I spent my entire childhood and teenage years in the sun in the summer, but I don't remember when my mom started using sunscreen.
I've had a full body check by a derm in the meantime.

My husband has a severe vitamin D deficiency so his neurologist prescribed sunlight tanning!

I went five times in college. There is a history of skin cancer in my family, so now I slather on the sunscreen when I'm outside.

I was addicted to tanning! Now I spray tan (but usually only for special events).

No. I'm fair and just burn. I got made fun of so much for being pale in high school because tanning was in.
honeydew / 7586 posts
I used to go all the time in my early 20s. It's not worth the risk to me now (even though I look sooo much better with a tan).

Daily tanning beds in HS and College, stopped after I graduated College.
I do miss it though - I know it's probably bad for you, but it was so relaxing and I felt so much better with tanned skin

Yes in high school and college i used to go to actual tanning salons. I dont do that anymore but getting a tan in the summer and on vacation is a high priority for me!

I did a lot before my wedding but now I'm very careful - always wear a hat and a lot of spf.

Same- did before LO. Loved how I looked (I would go 2-5 times a week) and REALLY loved that it dried up my skin (bad oily skin/acne.) Now I live in FL and am pastier than ever... irony!

Yep...basically daily in high school and college. I've since had 5 biopsies and 2 wide local exclusions to remove moles that came back as severely atypical. Dumb tanning!!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
Never. I think it's so bad for you and unnecessary.
pineapple / 12234 posts
I use to. In high school, I would go tanning every day for a stretch of time (like 2-3 weeks) then I'd maintain it by going once a week. I thought I looked good but I didn't....I was orange.
I went to the dermatologist after I had DS and they did a biopsy of a freckle, it came back with cancerous cells (I had to go back in to get it removed) so now I have a huge, ugly scar on my leg.
Now, I cover up in SPF daily.

I tanned daily through college and into my mid 20's, but stopped because I finally accepted it was terrible for me. I do lay out on vacation (with like SPF 40 on) or when we visit the lake or beach, but I haven't been in a bed in years. I am naturally super pale, so I look like a ghost without it, but it's not worth it to me at this point. I spray tan for special occasions.

I did my senior year of high school & in college but I quit because I felt guilty for treating my skim that way. I wouldn't mind being pale except that I love wear shorts & my bright white legs have at least 5 huge, dark unexplained bruises at all times. Not cute. Sometimes I get a spray tan but I domt like the idea of my "beauty" being washed off so I am usually just my normal self

Never in the tanning salon but I loved tanning on the beach and at the pool before LO. We live on the beach so it's hard to avoid the lure of tanning! I don't ever burn, but I know it's terrible for you anyway. LO is fairer than I am so I'm going to try harder to be a good example for her.

I used to quite a bit in high school/college, then here and there before special events/vacations.

I used to go in high school. I was SO tan (read: orange and gross).
Then I went 5 times or so before my wedding.
I recently bought three tans after having M because I felt so ugly and fat and white. That was the first time since my wedding. So I guess my answer is... rarely?

I've been tanning recently. I miss the sun. We're still having 40 degree days in Boston, last week there was snow on my car.

I used to tan daily in HS and college-it was an obession. I havent gone since probably 2008. I am now terrified of skin cancer and aging prematurely- you couldnt pay me anything to step foot in a tanning bed again. Now I just use sunless tanner.
papaya / 10560 posts
@HLK208: was there something about the freckle that made you go in? I have a small mole in my sternum and DH thinks I should get it removed.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
I used to go for a few weeks before we went on vacation. PP my skin has totally changed, and I don't tan...just burn. Plus, with the amount of cancer that runs in my family, I don't want to risk anything.
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
I used to, but if I go to a tanning bed, I won't go more than 6 min- ever. I like the sun and having color to my skin. I actually just laid out on the patio today while C was napping.

My uncle was diagnosed with melanoma and after 9 months of fighting, he didn't survive it. A good friend is 30 and is already a melanoma survivor. SPF when out in the sun, and no tanning beds for me--I personally think the risk is too high for a little color.
pomegranate / 3791 posts
Never. I get made fun of so much for being so pale and always have been, but it's not worth the risk to me. Only thing that sucks is I hardly ever wear shorts because I'm self-conscious due to scars that look way obvious/awful on my fair skin, plus the whole, "Your legs are blinding me! You look like a ghost!" thing gets pretty freaking old. Call it a healthy glow all you want people, but that is not how reality works...
pineapple / 12526 posts
Do I tan? Yes, I get a good and dark when I'm out in the sun a lot. I have mixed skin that tans dark and doesn't burn. Do I go tanning? No. Never have and never will. I'd rather not look like a box of chocolates that got left out in the sun when I'm 35.
But honestly, I'm a tons of SPF person now. I like my skin pale.

I did tan a little bit in high school and early college. I don't now, and usually wear at least 30 SPF. I regret tanning, and wish I had thought more about the risks at the time.
