I give LO juice, but like @Ree723, we juice at home. Some of our favorites include:
bell peppers, apples, ginger, and cucumber
Pineapple and carrot
Kale, cucumber, and apple

E is 19 months old and has never had juice but he does drink a fruit and veggie smoothie every morning, which has juice in it. I feel like it's the best way to get veggies into him each morning that he wouldn't normally eat (like kale and spinach).

C has prune juice daily mixed with his milk for constipation - when I skip one day, it is disaster all over again.
I don't intend to give it to him otherwise (but I'm not gonna lie - I really love juice )

It's not really something we've thought of or discussed. We never drink juice of any kind, so I'm not going to go out of my way to buy juice for LO, but I'm not against her having juice either. Juice was pretty much all I drank growing up and I've never had weight issues or been a picky eater; so I guess juice just had not crosses my mind to think about yet.

We only do juice if we juice it ourselves at home. He LOVES beet, carrot, apple and orange juice. Since it gets a little expensive to juice consistently, it's more of a special treat. It's also REALLY good for sickness so we juice if any of us are down and under.

@Ree723: thanks for posting the link!
We do juice, but mostly juice bar freshly pressed juice, or fresh OJ if we are having brunch out or smoothie-type juice blends that are thick/100% juice. The quantity is always really limited though, only 2-3 oz per day, and DS has juice maybe once or twice per week, if that.

I didn't realize juice was a "thing"...!
We haven't done juice but I'm sure he will have some at some point while we are out or ata party. We never have it at home because I don't like it (unless its mixed with seltzer).

DD had juice when she had major constipation from 6-7 months old. But since then she hasn't had juice. We ask daycare not to give her any juice (diluted is okay if she seems to really want it) but we're not worried because she doesn't like any of the juice we've offered her.

I'm really surprised to see how many people don't give their kids juice! I drank juice growing up and am healthy, and I give both my kids juice and they're healthy. I have had no problems with them drinking water or milk. I happen to like drinking a little OJ in the morning and see no issue with doing the same for the kids.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
Not something I wanted to give DD, but she's been battling constipation lately and some seriously diluted prune or apple juice tends to work wonders for her. Otherwise I wouldn't give it to her (DH and I aren't juice drinkers), but never say never

I only give it to LO once in a while (when at a restaurant, someone else's house), but never have it in the house. There is no need for juice and I see it as "empty calories". Fine for a treat, but not necessary on a regular basis. I'd rather him eat his fruit
pomegranate / 3759 posts
LO does not eat a whole lot of fruit so we will occasionally (1x/week) give her a cup of diluted apple juice. I don't think it is a bad bad thing to give kids the odd juice but it's also not a necessity.

We haven't yet but, it's mostly ecause we never drink juice in our house.
I am sure we eventually will do juice.
Even then, I will never do the sugar ones with no fruit (Hawaiian punch, kool-aid, sunny-d) . That's terrible.
grapefruit / 4671 posts
We don't give DD juicer cause she loves water, milk and fresh fruit. I'm not particularly against juice, but why bother to introduce it.
persimmon / 1081 posts
We don't keep juice in the house unless someone's constipated. Otherwise we see no benefits to having it in our diet. But I don't flip out if DD is at a party or at someone's house and is offered some. It's juice, not rat poison!

We never gave S juice until recently (she's 18 months) when she asked for it. When we do, it's basically colored water, we water it down so much.
cantaloupe / 6086 posts
we don't keep it in the house, but I would be ok with her having it at a party or something like that. I treat it the same way for myself - not everyday, but sometimes if we go out for brunch.

Yah, wow. Reading this makes me feel like an awful parent! C has juice with breakfast every day! She is almost a year and gets apple juice mega watered down! When she finishes it, I refill, but with water. I really don't see the big deal, who knew giving it or not was a thing. Pretty sure she'll survive and still be a fit, healthy kid!

My 18-month old has only had juice with me on two occasions. I think they also do it once per week at her daycare though, so presumably she knows what it is. The last time I fed her juice (it was at a religious celebration where grape juice was the only liquid available) she went totally crazy for it and treated it like candy. It was hard to get her to eat her food in between all of the requests for more juice. This is one of the reasons that I just keep the stuff away from her for now...

@Beebug: Me too, not to worry! Check out the Mayo Clinic link I posted on the first page, it will show you there is absolutely nothing wrong with 100% juice in moderate quantities (less than 4 oz per day for kids under six) as long as you're not putting it in a bottle and it's not replacing real fruit and/or meals. It's one of those things that I think people demonize at the moment when really, it's not that big of a deal.

We aren't big juice people so our kids never really drink juice.. but mostly because we don't buy it! Wagon Jr. has had juice at birthday parties and gatherings, and if we happen to have it at home we'll give it to him every now and then. As long as he's also eating fruits and veggies I don't mind giving him juice as a treat. If he didn't drink water and milk like crazy I'd probably consider watered down juice to make sure he was getting enough water.

Nope, no juice for us for the most part. She's had some watered down apple juice on special occasions (like out for dinner at a restaurant) and sometimes for constipation. Our doctor specifically brings it up at every checkup and urges us not to give her juice. Bad for teeth, empty calories and full of sugar.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
We don't do juice, the only times we've given it to her is super diluted hoping to help with constipation.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@whodat: I like it too! I probably had way too much growing up, but I've since moderated. We don't always have it in the house, but I do like a small glass in the morning when we do. I can't see us filling bottles with it, but I don't think a little bit of juice in the morning every once in a while is a terrible thing, either.
pear / 1664 posts
My girl's been drinking pear juice twice daily for constipation since she was 7 weeks old. She drinks soy formula though. I picked pear juice over a laxative - rather not give a tiny baby medicine, ya know?

@jedeve: we dont give regular juice. LO is 18 months but she has diluted prune juice everyday. Although prune juice is not really juice..
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
We don't plan to give juice either. Bad for the teeth and unnecessary calories.

And of course, the day this was posted, I go to daycare and they tell me they gave her juice as a treat for a birthday. ARGH!

T is 17 months old and has had diluted Gatorade when sick and a small cup of apple juice on a plane ride to distract him (ie so that our neighbors wouldnt hate us!) I don't plan to keep any in the house.

@Beebug: @Ree723: same, while we don't give it regularly, I don't think it's a big deal or makes someone a "bad" parent, there are a million things each of us does as parents that others don't do, but as long as our kids are healthy and loved it should never be a point of criticism on anyone's parenting!
@LovelyPlum: me too, I love it! I drink watered down juice on a regular basis, I just don't share with my kid! I guess I do share with the one still baking, but I never drink enough water and I can use calories with morning sickness and eventually nursing
honeydew / 7091 posts
We won't keep it in our house because I have no self-control (LOVE juice!), but I don't think I'll deny it when we're at IL's house for breakfast, etc. I feel more strongly about baked goods and desserts and having to deny those at the IL's.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@lemondrop: I like your thinking I've found that a little bit of apple juice settles my stomach when I'm not feeling well, so it's become a "thing" this pregnancy. Plus, I'm mildly lactose-intolerant, so sitting down to a glass of milk is not really an option. We've been buying the juice with calcium, because I've noticed my nails splitting, which I think means I need to up my calcium intake. We go through phases of liking it and being "juiced out", but regardless, I still love, love, love my fruit. I don't think any amount of juice could prevent that!

no juice yet and no plans to, we don't really have juice (aside from oj) in our house!
