when a cashier is talking to someone else whilst ringing up your items at the supermarket. Some one just did this to me and made a mistake because of this. She entered 11 tomatoes instead of 1 which is a pretty big difference and she just kept going, Luckily I was paying attention to the total amount and got confusd why the amount jumped up so high so I asked her to check the tomatoes again and when we looked at the receipt realized she had entered the wrong amount. Which means if I was shopping with my baby and paying attention to the baby I would have paid for 11 tomatoes even though I only bought one, And wouldnt have realized til I checked the receipt at home.

That's frustrating, luckily you caught it!
This happened to me and as a result she forgot to give me two of my bags. In the long run I was obviously able to get my items, but it was a long weekend where we had family plans so we were days without some of the stuff I wanted before I had a chance to get back.

It does! I think it's really rude. Not to mention it usually means they are talking over me.

I diligently watch the screen as I'm checking out at the grocery store these days. After checking my receipt a few times after leaving the store over the last several months, I found a mistake on there every single time (didn't ring up under the sale price, rang up the wrong quantity, etc.). Everyone should keep an eye on it as things are ringing up! I can't even imagine how much money grocery stores pocket because of mistakes like this.

I haven't really had this (your situation) happen to the point where it's bothersome, but I HATE HATE HATE it when somebody is in front of me and has checked out and paid and it chatting with the cashier and the cashier just talks to them and I'm sitting there with like 50 items waiting to be taken care of. That just happened to me on Sunday and it makes me so ragey toward both of them.

Its hard to get good customer service from cashiers sometimes. I used to be a cashier when I was a teenager so I know it can be hard sometimes but but still no excuse

I do self-check at stop and shop because I use the scanner that you ring yourself out as you go. Sometimes, though, it'll give me trouble with coupons and tell me I need assistance. I can't stand when the cashier who's supposed to be tending self-checkout is chatting away with a friend! I usually interrupt them, because I'm not going to wait all day for them to stop talking about what Dave did at the movies last night.

Yeah, that's annoying. I also don't like it when a cashier asks me what ethnicity I am and then try to speak my language, especially when I'm in a huge rush and he's slowly bagging my stuff and trying very hard to speak my language very slowly too. He was being nice but I was in a huge rush to get home to feed my LO. This just happened the other day too!

I find this super annoying. It slows them down drastically, and in today's life, everything is go, go, go, go and I'm no exception. I'm always in a hurry, and they never seem to be!

That is annoying, and it's like adding insult to injury when the first time they say anything to you is saying bye to you as you're leaving!

@spaniellove: Yeah, it kind of is, but I don't think he realized that. He was telling me that he has 6 Chinese friends and so that's how he learned how to speak Mandarin, etc. I just nodded my head and didn't say much and just said, "oh okay," in English. I just didn't really feel like speaking back even if I speak perfect Mandarin. LOL! I just wanted to get home to feed my LO!

I don't really mind. I don't care to talk to them..... so I don't care if they're talking to someone else. But it would be annoying if they messed up because of it.

It doesn't really bother me, and even if they were talking to someone else and made just the one mistake, it wouldn't really bother me. But if my receipt is full of mistakes or they take a really long time because they're talking, I get annoyed!
