Ours does. So they don't have to make decisions. We usually lose 3-4 days for any ice/snow storm. Our schools are closed today and they just closed them tomorrow, which means daycare is closed today and tomorrow. Ugh.

Yes, but we're right on the county line, so they follow two school districts. Both have to have a delay/close in order for them to even consider a delay or closure. Even if the school districts close, they don't always close too which is nice.

No, they follow the local government offices (which hardly ever close). Kinda nice for us that daycare is open but stinks that we are often coming in on bad weather days.

They did and it caused a storm of controversy. It wasn't a decision they took lightly, they had to consider the safety of staff that was commuting from points farther north and had more inclement weather.

Yes, but I am a teacher in that town so fortunately it is not an issue for me. DD wouldn't be going either way!

They do not, thankfully! Our old daycare did and we had so many BS "snow" days or "frigid temperature" days that were only based on kids safety at bus stops - which I totally understand - but didn't matter for kids going to daycare. I'm a state employee so if it is really bad, we will close and I don't have to burn too many vacation days!

They don't, but they have had to close early/ open later to make sure staff could get in/ out safely.

No, our schools had a 2-hour delay recently for snow and the daycare opened on time. Thank goodness.

They follow a school system, but not ours! We live on the border of two towns, and the daycare/preschool is literally just on the other side of the town line...the "Welcome to..." sign is in front of the school. On Friday the school system the preschool follows was open, but "my" school system (where we were supposed to have preschool orientation for next year) was closed.
I don't mind extra closures b/c I SAH and would rather not drive when it's nasty out anyway. But Friday made me realize it's probably more important than I thought to try to get DD1 and DD2 into the same school system for next year.

Ours is closed today (for the 4th time this year). It's extra frustrating, because we're paying full tuition, and unlike a school that can add extra days at the end of the year, our preschool is year-round, so there isn't room for extra make-up days. It's hard.
I should say, we live in an area that very rarely gets snowy weather - this year has just been especially brutal. I'm ready for Spring.

@littlejoy: yes. Full tuition and we just paid for the kids to be off for 2 weeks so "the teachers and staff can enjoy a long holiday break." I don't mind schools you aren't paying for taking holiday breaks, 2 week holiday breaks when you have to pay for those effing 2 weeks is ridiculous.

@mediagirl: AMEN! I do think the teachers deserve a living wage, and full time deserve a couple weeks off ... but it still bothers me. Ha.

@MamaG: I'm a northerner living in the South and we have more snow days here than I did growing up! They close for everything!!!
@mediagirl: It would honestly be a deal breaker for me if our school closed on the public school schedule because the public schools close allllll the time. Even just because it's cold and there isn't even precipitation.

@Truth Bombs: I know it. We had to move her when we knew we would be moving so we would have her somewhere in between. 6 months to go...

@littlejoy: @mediagirl: When our daycare is closed for holidays or weather, we still have to pay, BUT the teachers DON'T get paid because they are hourly. So the daycare PROFITS off calling a snow day. It legitimately infuriates me.

@Truth Bombs: We were told all teachers were paid for time off (which is why they still charge full tuition for breaks) ... BUT, we've become really close to one of the teachers, and he told us that he's never gotten paid for closures or breaks. Sneaky - he's technically not full time since he's an assistant. That makes me feel pretty frustrated.

No ours doesn't go with the school schedule, luckily. They also seem to try pretty hard to keep the school open unless it's really unsafe for teachers to get there. It's really close to our house so there's even been a couple times that brought DS over there and then went back home to work instead of the office.

My LO's daycare is on the university campus that I work at. They do follow the campus closures except the campus very rarely closes so this works out for me quite well.

Ours actually puts the director and some teachers up in hotels close to the school so that they can open. It has been fabulous! Today and yesterday they operated on a 2 hour delay, but they very rarely close.

Ours is just part time preschool, so no one could rely on it for true childcare, but they close on the town public school closures. They are actually in a different town than me though- I live on the last street in our town, the next block is their town. We actually haven't had snow on a school day yet this winter.
