The first time I ever took my dogs to a dog park it was such a fail. One was so scared he stayed at my side the whole time. He LOVES to play fetch but wouldn't even get the ball, he was so scared! The other dog managed to find a hole in the fence big enough to squeeze through and started running towards a busy street!
I don't take them to the dog park anymore, haha. I wish they liked it though, it seems like so much fun!!!

My dog ADORES the dog park. Don't say the words "dog park" around her unless you mean it...as in, walk straight to the car and go there. I think she'd rather you just teleport her there, actually. We can't drive down the dog park *street* without her freaking the heck out.
But we don't go in the fall...waaaaaayyy too much mud!

We don't take ours to the dog park because her recall is crap and she would never come back. Lol. There aren't any fenced in dog parks here. We do take her every other week to a doggy day care up the street and she loves it! It's well worth the money!

Big dogs scare her, but she is only about 4-5lbs so I don't blame her!

we had a similar experience to you. My one dog stuck like glue to my side while the other managed to get separated, ran like heck from all the other dogs, which of course initiated a huge chase. The pack ran her down and she started screaming bloody murder as she was engulfed by a pile of dogs.
We don't go to the dog park any more, either ;).
PS instead we do agility, so we can have one on one fun that's much more their speed!

Ours loves it because he can run freely (he's a jack russell). Once he exerts his energy, he'll find a spot to sunbathe and just lay there. He doesn't interact with the other dogs though.

No, our dog isn't a fan of other dogs.
Working in veterinary medicine we tend to avoid dog parks even with super friendly dogs that we watch, the parks tend to be more trouble than they are worth as far as aggression and disease transmission are concerned.
