Charlie got his teeth checked out today and the dentist asked us this! Apparently a lot of kids these days are just drinking bottled water and aren't getting exposed to fluoride...

Yup but we have no fluoride in the water so they get supplements.

Yes, we used to give LO bottled water but at our 12 mo appointment, our pediatrician recommended tap so now we give her Brita water.

Yup. During my moms group the health nurse mentioned that tap water was recommended.

Yes but we supplement with fluoride drops bc our town doesn't have fluoridated water.

No we have a well - I didn't think fluoride supplements were recommended for toddlers. I guess I should I look into this!

We don't even drink our well water...we share a well with my in-laws & the well or pump or something has rust in it so it isn't safe to drink! Our toilets & shower turn orange if I don't clean them weekly!

LO drinks loads of tap water every day....but I don't know if tap water here has fluoride added to it, I'm kind of thinking no but I should check.
ETA: just checked and yep, we have fluoride added to our water here! Regardless, I think bottled water is a waste of money and terrible for our environment anyway so I refuse to use it full stop.

@mrbee: She doesn't have one yet, she's only recently gotten teeth!
But as a highly unscientific anecdote, my sister and I were raised on bottled water and fluoride free toothpaste and we both have excellent oral health.

We filter fluoride out of our tap water via reverse osmosis, purposely. We all already get way over the "recommended amount" in our food grown with fluoridated water, food processed with it, and any purchased drinks.

He gets both regularly. I don't discriminate. I've also seen him drink from a puddle, so there's that.

Yes, exclusively. But I live in a wretched backwards place that doesn't fluoridate, so boo.

@mrbee: Oh no need to respond to it, it really was just an anecdote.
I didn't base our decision off of my history, but it is one of the reasons I decided to research it myself.

LO's water is almost all tap. She only gets bottled if we are out and about.

Yep. He drinks it every night at teetg brushing time and when he's thirsty he's got a water bottle he refills from the tap.

DS drinks lots of tap water but it's from a well. Fluoride can be naturally occurring in well water though. We dont do the fluoride supplements.

Yes but our town doesn't fluorinate - my 5 yr old rinses with ACT every night

I just checked and apparently, our drinking water does not contain fluoride. It seems that quite a few EU countries are against it and never implemented it or abolished it.

I think it's difficult to compare Europe and the US in terms of dental health. It is quite common to see adults in Europe with poor oral health, denistry just wasn't a priority until recently.
Bottled water scares me more than flouride in tap water though. It's unregulated, so you really have no idea what you're drinking. Some bottled waters are just filtered municpal waters, so you have to do your research (obviously).
