We let our LO's have juice now and then but not daily. They like orange juice, LO2 likes apple juice/cider and they will occasionally drink a juice box. Do you let your LO drink juice?

She gets it every once in a while. They serve it once a week at daycare and if we are at a birthday party she can have juice if it is offered. It makes her so happy because it's a treat she doesn't normally get.

For a while he had it daily to help with constipation, but now he just has the occasional juice box when we are out somewhere or at the grandparents' house. He likes apple juice.
grapefruit / 4903 posts
Not really. She gets juice boxes at parties and play dates, but she prefers water.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
DS knows what juice is and we give it to him when he asks, but he'll take a sip and shake his head like it's gross. lol

He gets a little grape juice once a week for Friday night dinner (we're Jewish and it's part of our custom). Besides that, we don't keep it at home but he gets it when he goes to his cousins' house or parties. He's also recently discovered chocolate milk and looooves it so we do that occasionally as well. We are big into most things in moderation.

I must be a terrible parent! My kid drinks a ton of juice. More than I'd like actually.

Mine does, she is 19mo. We first introduced it because she basically went through periods of refusing all liquids (everything) and I really wanted her to at least drink something. She liked the novelty of juice pouches (I bought the ones that were basically like overpriced water with a little fruit juice)
Now that she can ask for it, she loves asking for it...
We do a cup now, but I usually do the combo veggie/fruit juices that are low in sugar (like 50-60cal for 8oz) and then I split that 50/50 with water.
So I trick her haha. She doesn't get straight juice like OJ or apple too often, maybe 1 or 2oz a week when she asks to drink from daddy's cup.

DD1 gets a cup of apple cider every day. It's been there one thing that keeps her regular. Not my favorite thing, but her bowels are slow and she needs the help.
DD2 gets whatever sips she can steal.

He regularly gets the tot apple juice that is diluted, then further diluted with water. It's either that or ridiculous amounts of milk, so i'd rather he get flavored water.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
Very rarely. She doesn't even like it that much anyway and drinks plenty of water so I don't care if she has it once in a great while.
Coconut water, she's obsessed with and would drink every day if I let her. But it's kind of expensive so I reserve it as a special treat. I like that it has less sugar than juice but I can always count on her drinking lots of it if needed (like if she is sick or something).

We only buy orange juice, so gets that with breakfast everyday. At parties/special occasions, I'm ok with her having other juice, but not every day.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
Yep. Almost every day (about 4 oz). Juice and prunes are the only things that keep the poops coming post-potty training.
grapefruit / 4800 posts
Yup. I never saw juice as a bad thing. We avoid juice-like drinks or added sugar and usually half the cup is water. Our favorite right now is half carrot half pineapple juice. They'll drink watered down carrot juice too, it's surprisingly refreshing. They didn't though probably before 18 months.

Nope, she hates it. I tried apple and grape and she refused both. My kid is weird.
grapefruit / 4418 posts
Shes never had juice outside of a little apple juice my mil puts in smoothies she makes. It's not something we want to introduce her to other than it being a treat.
grapefruit / 4291 posts
Only on special occasions but she does drink diluted flavoured milk on a regular basis.

DS gets what i get - half a cup of orange juice at breakfast daily. I've had this habit for years and i don't think i drink juice in excess and i realized if i am drinking it in front of him everyday, i can't expect him not to want and have some too. The only way i could keep him from having juice would be if i gave it up and i am not willing to, nor do i think i need to. So I am okay with the amount he has. It did take over 2 years before he actually started asking for it and develop the habit himself.
I do plan to give up soda though because i wish i was not so addicted to them and i do NOT want to pass that habit onto my kids! I know I am pushing it now by the fact that it has been 3 years with DS and i still drink it in front of him. So far, he understands it is an "adult" drink, but i know we can't get away with that much longer.

Yep. We're big fans of honest juice pouches.
The kids drink OJ a few times a week too.

Occasionally, recently. If my husband and I are drinking something that isn't water at dinner B gets really upset that he can't share it, so we give him some diluted juice so he also has a special drink.
pomegranate / 3768 posts
Sometimes. We don't have juice at home but when we're out I'll give it to her.
nectarine / 2115 posts
I sometimes add a splash of juice to her water, and if her blood sugar gets low and she becomes a little monster I've been known to give her a couple of ounces.

Maybe once a week. DH has started adding the Kool-aid squirt flavor things to her water. She thinks it is juice but I still don't like her having it every day.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@oliviaoblivia: haha yes. dS2 is a juice thief!
My 3.5 year old gets watered down OJ with breakfast sometimes. Or a juice box occasionally.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
Almost never. He loves milk and water, though.
But on the weekends we get smoothies!
honeydew / 7622 posts
T had pineapple juice for the first time this week. It won't be a regular thing.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
Very occasionally, and I water it down if I can. DH makes smoothies for her instead.
@californiadreams: I have this conversation with DH all the time, since he drinks juice or soda with dinner. He usually ends up hiding his cup behind things so she can't see but she is onto him
pomegranate / 3411 posts
@travelgirl1: i did forget to mention that we water the juice down too. we didn't always, and then all he wanted was juice all the time. As soon as we started doing half water, half juice, he is fine with his half cup a day and some days he forgets to ask for it. And before he started drinking it, we used to drink our juice out of coffee mugs. It was sometime after he turned 2 that he caught on that those coffee mugs = orange juice.
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
She wouldn't drink juice for so so so long. For about the past 6 months she has some when she wakes up for the day and when she wakes from her nap. I do half water half juice. So she's only drinking about 4 to 6oz a day, depending on the day. I don't personally like juice and if like her to drink less because of her raging sweet tooth ("more raisins?") but I'm okay with it.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
Rarely. They both just really like water. LO1 used to be obsessed with milk, but that's ended.
eggplant / 11716 posts
I just started giving it to her sometimes (she's 2 years, 4 months)--well, only apple juice. She suddenly started having issues with constipation and she already doesn't drink milk and started refusing water, too.
So now when she hasn't pooped, I give her big cup of apple juice and that usually does the trick. She gets 0 sweets/candy/ice cream, so I'm cool with the juice at this point.
pomegranate / 3604 posts
Very very rarely (if ever, we usually don't buy juice) at home but i know he gets it at daycare & his dad does give it to him. If we go out for dinner he gets chocolate milk.
