LO (11 months old) totally does this, and there are sooooo many teeth marks on the crib railing!!! Errrrm, I'm hoping the paint is non-toxic! I don't really know how to stop him from doing it either aside from getting teething bumpers since he does this when he's alone in the room. Any ideas? Will he stop this on his own?

We just went ahead and got the teething bumpers. I plan to use the crib for #2 and didn't want it all chewed up. We got these. but they come in a wider style for cribs with thick rails too. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0051BBCGO/ref=ya_aw_oh_pit

My LO is too young to gnaw, but we are using a hand me down crib with tons of teeth marks! I made a teething bumper for it to cover them and to hopefully keep LO from adding her own marks. Looks very similar to what @kiddosc: just posted.

I took some fleece, cut slits along the crib bars, and tied and trimmed them. I really like how it turned out, and no tooth marks!
ETA- C lost interest shortly after I covered it.

we got a teething bumper thing that came with our crib. it looks basically exactly like what @lemondrop: made, except ours has velcro to attach it.
we have to wash it often. he om noms on it a LOT.
