We have a cat and she loves sleeping in our bed. What I don't love is how much fur she sheds! I try to change our sheets twice a week, but it's hard to wash blankets that frequently.
Does your pet sleep with you? How do you deal with all the fur?

My two yorkies used to, but they don't shed. When DS was born, we stopped since he ends up in bed with me so often. Our golden retriever mix sleeps in his own bed - too much shedding!

@grizz: Um, are we long lost twins? I have two Yorkies and a Golden Retriever, too
Our Yorkies sleep in bed with us, but they don't shed so it's alright. I only have to change the sheets once a week. The Golden isn't allowed anywhere near our bed - her shedding is so out of control. Sometimes I wonder how she has any hair left on her.

We have a cat and she sleeps on the bed. I just try to control fur at the source and brush her often! She used to shed a lot in summer but not so much lately.
edit: I usually wash sheets every 2 weeks.

We used to let our dog in the bed but he never wanted to sleep there. He shed way to much we were washing the sheets like 3-4 times a week (puppy, he brought dirt with him) so he has been 86d

@pinkcupcake: Perfect combo! Do you get dog hair tumbleweeds in your house too?!

I have two fluffy cats who sleep on the foot of the bed on the duvet. I change my sheets weekly, but I must admit I haven't washed the duvet cover in some time.

We have a small dog that doesn't shed but we don't let him sleep with us. He has his own bed next to ours! These days lo seems to think it's her chair, poor dog

Yes, and it's an ongoing battle. We have a Pointer whose favorite thing is to basically sleep right on top of us. It's worse in the fall, too, when mud can get into the crevices of her paws outside and end up on the bed We change the sheets once a week or so, and we usually have a blanket over the duvet. I am thinking we need to put a sheet on it instead of the blanket, though, because washing the blanket is a huge pain!

@grizz: ahh the fur tumble weeds! That's what I call them too when we had carpet, I had to vacuum everyday and the amount of fur in the canister blew my mind. Now we have hardwood and unless I swiffer daily, golden balls of fur tumble weeds float by every which way. Sigh. If she wasn't so
sweet and loveable....

I wash the bed monthly, there's just no way I can get it done more frequently. We keep a blanket over the foot of the bed where the dog sleeps and wash that weekly-ish. We do brush the cats and dog often (the Furminator is the best tool ever for hair removal!), and give the dog a bath monthly. I also run the vacuum with the upholstery attachment over the top quilt weekly which helps.

Our cat sleeps on our bed but is only allowed on top of the duvet, not on the sheets themselves. I try to wash the sheets every week, give or take a few days, but don't get to the duvet cover very often because it's such a pain to get off and back on. I do vacuum it at least a couple times a month to get rid of the cat hair, though.

We have a little chihuahua. She sleeps with us, but under the covers. I wash the sheets 1x a week. The duvet cover probably 1x a month. Should be more often, but it's too much work these days. She doesn't shed much though, is indoors only, and gets a bath about every week or two.

One cat and one dog sleep on our bed at their leisure. The other dog and cat don't bother. I wash/change sheets every Friday.

our two pugs sleep with us. we wash the sheets and blanket once a week. there's still a lot of fur because pugs shed like crazy, but considering the general state of our apartment, it's clear that we have surrendered.

Usually just in the morning, but she's been sneaking up in the night. She's a messy German Shepherd, so lots of fur and who knows what. We wash once a week.
@lemondrop: how do you wash the whole bed? I'm intrigued.

My dog sleeps with me when I'm home alone. Other than that he lays in the bed with us in the mornings but sleeps in his own crate. I still wash my sheets every Wednesday!

My dog used to sleep with us and we'd change the sheets once/week and wash the comforter..... not enough. lol. Now the dog sleeps on the floor and it is nice to have a (mostly) hair-free bed.

Our dog used to sleep in our bed before the boys arrived, but he never would stay the whole night. He's a finicky sleeper, if you touch him the wrong way, he gets angry and jumps off the bed. That said, our rule was he was only allowed on the duvet, not under the covers, to minimize shedding (he's a black Lab).
He loves to sleep on our bed during the day when we're gone, but I nixed that when he decided that sleeping on the duvet wasn't good enough and would rake it down to get nestled in under the sheets. So now he's locked out of our room when we're gone. I don't like sleeping in a hairy bed!
We change sheets once a week.

when he was a puppy we let him...then we kicked him out. he slowly started inching his way from our feet to ON OUR PILLOWS..while we were on them too. no thank you to getting kicked in the face by claws while I slept.
and his fur was/is out of control. he's a sheltie (but huge..50 lbs) and it's just unreal. I dropped my bra on the bedroom floor the other day by accident and swore, sure enough, I picked it up and it was literally covered. I had to lint roll it.

@Happygal: lol, I just mean to strip the bed and wash the sheets, duvet cover, pillowcases, sometimes duvet, etc. In between I'll just wash the dog blanket at the foot of the bed and vacuum the top quilt. My husband is asthmatic, so they aren't allowed up by our heads or on the pillows, or under the sheets.

@shopaholic: Twins!! Our chihuahua pedro sleeps under the covers too. He is my snuggle buddy.
We wash our sheets every week.

Our bedroom door is always shut to keep the cats out and our dog sleeps on his own bed in our bedroom. I hate locking them out but they're very bad bed mates.

My cat sleeps next to my head a lot of the times, or in a box at the foot of our bed, on top of the dresser. He doesn't shed too much because I get him groomed every few months. I won't talk about how often I do not wash our sheets....

We have a Perkinese/Poodle mix and she sleeps with us, however she sleeps on top of her own blanket and doesn't shed. I wash the sheets weekly (I love fresh sheets so sometimes it's 2x a week), blankets weekly, but sadly the comforter has to be drycleaned so it's been neglected.

We have a new Siberian kitten. He's been here for just over two weeks and is 12.5 weeks old. I had read that Siberians only shed twice per year, for about 10 days each time, but we didn't really believe it. So far he hasn't shed at all! It's awesome!
He definitely sleeps with us -- the breeder said it's important to help him adjust to his new home and bond with us. It's adorable while he's actually sleeping, especially when he snuggles up next to me. But he wakes up sometime between 4am and 6am and starts plotting his attack on his mortal enemy, our comforter. Five minutes ago, I stared at him as he crouched down and just waited because I knew he was about to pounce on my face. The little maniac is lucky he's so cute!!!

@grizz: @pinkcupcake: Yorkie love!!!!! Our two Yorkies sleep in the bed with us. On the pillow. I change the sheets every week to two weeks if I forget. Totally off topic- but are the Yorkies good with your baby?
