This has always been a point of confusion to me... I don't really understand why some people hold onto their hometown area code for years/decades after they've moved to a new area (in my case, NYC).

Is it for the nostalgia? To represent their hometown? Inertia?

Does your phone's area code match where you live? If not, can you explain this one to me... why are there so many hometown area codes floating around out there?

ps I understand if you're from Boston and want to hold onto your 617/781/857 number rather than be annexed by NYC... I mean, for everyone else.
