Our son's school doesn't allow teachers to celebrate Halloween. So our pre-K teacher celebrated "Harvest Featival" instead, complete with costumes! Seemed like the exact same thing, more or less. Maybe with fewer zombies though.
She said that instead of Christmas, our class will celebrate "the Holidays.". It will be a combination of Christmas and Kwanzaa (Hanukah comes early this year).. Should be interesting!
Does your school officially celebrate Halloween? What about Christmas?

I kind of get the "Harvest Festival" because it would have all the fun of dressing up without the scary elements since little kids might get scared by it?

We have too many students who don't celebrate Halloween so we do Harvest Festival type things instead. I think most classes celebrate Christmas though they don't call it Christmas. We have very few Jewish students.

Our school has a literature day parade the day before Halloween. Kids have to dress up as their favorite literature character and bring the book to carry as they walk in the parade.

Our school does all the holidays including Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and Halloween. Lots of celebrating in our community!

My mom works at a pre-school and they do a Harvest Festival as well. They go all out for Christmas, though, because the pre-school is affiliated with a church.

I don't think our school does any holidays, but they do allow kids to celebrate birthdays. They did paint pumpkins, explore the insides of a pumpkin, bake pumpkin muffins, and make spider webs, but I don't think they overtly talked about Halloween.

Our school calls it Fall Party. It's super anti-Halloween actually. The official reason is because we have Jehovah's Witness students (although I don't know whom or how many). Interestingly, we DO celebrate Christmas. We call it "the Holidays", but we sing Christmas carols at a school-wide assembly (with 1 Chanukah & 1 Kwanzaa song). No mention of accommodating J.W. students there

Yea - all the kids dressed up in their costumes at school for Halloween, and they threw a trunk-or-treat thing for them! They celebrate Christmas too~

I don't have a little one in school yet, but it's very controversial in our area that we've had to stop mentioning/celebrating Christmas because it might not be celebrated by minorities, but Kwanzaa/Vaisakhi/Chanukah/Diwali/Chinese New Year/Eid Al Adha are all celebrated in the intention of learning about diversity.

I'm from England and have to say this post has made me a bit sad! Some schools do not celebrate halloween over here but tbh it's not really as big a thing anyway. But I've never heard of not celebrating christmas. Whether or not it's part of your faith it is part of our countries' traditions. Like I have hindu friends who celebrate christmas and if I were in india I would celebrate diwali etc

We do both at my son's preschool here in Mexico! Actually more like a Halloween- Day of the Dead mashup. We had to cut out and dress up a paper skeleton this week. I felt a bit out of my element but... when in Rome!

People don't celebrate Halloween here, so nothing at school. From what I see on the calendar, they celebrate St. Nicholas day on December 6th.

@Snowdrop: as someone who has a Hindu husband who happily celebrates Christmas with me, I kind of agree with you that Christmas is not just religious (I'm not religious) but cultural. In any case, at the school I work in, we don't really celebrate anything but there is a holiday assembly with both Christmas and Hanukkah songs performed by the choir and band. No Kwanzaa. No mention of Ramadan if it falls during the school year and no Diwali either. But our students are majority Christian and Jewish so I guess they are doing majority rules.

Nope...DS is in public school. He had a "fall party" at school on Thursday, but all the treats were very Halloween looking.
I think they will do a "winter party" also.

Harvest fest parade. Thy walk around to the pastors and staff to get treats. No scary costumes. I didn't realize they don't wear their costumes all day.
