Dd is 13.5 months and doesn't always sttn. Sometimes she does but that's become more the exception than the rule.
I have been hanging in there with the "wait it out" method but I have to admit it's getting frustrating since I naively thought she would be sttn consistently by now given what a good sleeper she was from 3/4 to 8 months.
Just wondering if this is normal or if I'm in the minority?

DD was a TERRIBLE sleeper. She is 3.5 years old and still doesn't consistently STTN (last night she even woke up once and needed us). DS is a much better sleeper and he probably STTN about 8 out of 10 nights, he is 20 months old.

My LO sttn about 95% of the time. The exception is if she's sick. She was actually a terrible sleeper/napper until we sleep trained at 11.5 months. I tried to wait it out for a long time, but it became unmanageable since I WOH.

We are the opposite. DS was a horrific sleeper until 2 weeks after he turned 1. Then, like magic, he decided to sleep through the night and has done so pretty much ever since. He's almost 3 now.

nope. we've had a few months of sttn here and there but with teething and a nasty cold, i don't think we'll be there again for a while.

Lala didn't really settle in to sttn until she was 2. Now she's a decent sleeper... Though I'll always think of her as my horrible sleeper

My 15 month olds almost always sttn. They were up (and eating) many, many times a night until we sleep trained at 10 months, but since then have done remarkably well. I'm hoping we paid our dues! Occasionally they need some extra attention because of teething or sickness, but it's usually at the beginning or the end of the night, rather than a middle of the night wakeup.

She slept through from about 3 1/2-51/2ish months and that was it.
We are going through a better period now, but have actually told each other not to get our hopes up! 
She has fooled us before, lol.
She is 18 months and sleeps in her own room. We would have co-slept if it helped, but it didn't. Yawn.
It is brutal. Hardest thing in my whole life, for sure.

My 13 month old STTN maybe about 80% of the time and he sleeps with me and my husband. Even on nights he STTN he is still a very restless sleeper. His sleep got crappy around 7 months.

No. She goes through phases of mostly sleepthing through, then swings to mostly not. If she wakes, she usually wants water.

Nope. We have an almost 15mo who doesn't STTN. But then again, he never has...so not much new there 
It's amazing to me when I think about the fact that I haven't had more than a couple of full nights of sleep for almost 15 months now...

Mine both started sttn early on. Dd had crap sleep as soon as she learned to crawl though. 9-18 months was painful since she was on a floor bed.
From 18 mos-now she sttn 6:30-6:30(7) roughly. Every once in a while she wakes to pee or drink water.
DS has been sttn since he was.. 8 weeks old? (10 hr stretches) now he sleeps 6-6:30. On occasion he'll wake once and I just nurse him and put him back down.

@chopsuey: mine started early (8h before 4m) too and we got to 11h averages with maybe a paci replacement and thats it..and it was like once separation anxiety hit she stopped being able to fall asleep without us and aside from sleep training idk what to do! Maybe 18m will be the magic age for us too...

My 18 month old does consistently sleep through the night, but she sometimes wakes crying if she can't find her pacifier. She sleeps with 4 of them in bed with her, but they often fall out of the crib or just get out of reach.... and then we have to get up and go find one for her!

my LO is almost 15 months, and I say he STTN. he wakes up maybe once or twice, needing a paci replaced when he can't find it (normally because it's somehow fallen INSIDE his sleep sack O_o) which takes me all of 90 seconds to do, so i don't really count those as wake ups.
he will wake up and take up to an hour to get back down if he's sick or teething.
he STTN pretty consistently since 3 or 4 months old? we had a little regression around 8 months, but that resolved itself within a month or 2
ETA: i feel like i should disclose that i still hold him until he is asleep every night

@Penny Lane: I don't think I really buy the idea that they can't be helped to fall asleep initially. I think the majority of older infants do get some help. Which is why I'm hesitant to sleep train, if that's even possible anymore. Plus we are going to move into a new place in a couple months. Dd used to do that with the pacis but now she sleeps lightly, getting up to check if I'm still there every now and then for the first hour or so. Luckily sometimes I can just put her in bed with me and she'll stay down the rest of the night, but she doesn't always sleep well with me and when dh is home it gets really crowded and I can't really sleep when we're all in bed. Ugh!

@Keppa: No kidding! We recently has a week of 'better' nights and I felt like a new person,...or rather, the person I used to be before full time work and no sleep turned me into a gritchy wench!

@Penny Lane: my LO is 16 months and I still rock her to sleep every night. I've never been able to put her down drowsy and have her fall asleep - from newborn until now, doing that just makes her ragey mad and wide awake. So I rock her, and we all get to STTN!
LO STTN unless she is sick. If she doesn't STTN, it's a clear sign that something is off with her.

@googly-eyes: Ellie fell asleep nursing every night until she was 5. 5!!!! Now she falls asleep independently no differently than her peers. And she was the one who wanted to do it that way. There's lots of ways to get there, but you will. Lorelei doesn't STTN at 19 months, either. I don't mind because we still bed-share part of the night. The one night she slept until 5:30 or so Mr. T laughed at me because I went in there to check on her (she was just fine) and then went back to our room to tell him I was going to lay down with her. I'm just not ready for her to be a big kid yet, I guess. Though I did the same thing with Ellie.

@googly-eyes: not always. I'll just bring him to bed with me because I know he'll sleep longer. He doesn't always get up, but he's restless sometimes and I'm scared to leave him.
Friday night we stayed at a friends house, I went to a concert while her ILs watched our boys. DS was up until 2am and still only slept until 8am. Ugh, he's just.like.me.

@Mrs. Twine: Thank you!! If dd is crying and I don't go to her she just gets p'd!!! She doesn't really cry, she screams, and will even vomit. She does seem to prefer sleeping in her crib but she just wants us to be there til she's REALLY out. I just keep feeling like I am doing something wrong as the months go by and things haven't sorted themselves out (despite a schedule, bedtime routine, etc..)

@googly-eyes: I pat LO until she falls asleep. I can't leave the room until she has fallen asleep, but luckily it doesn't take too long (15 minutes). LO is 18.5 months and STTN.

@googly-eyes: LO is younger than yours but my mom said I didn't STTN until I was about 3 :/she said she just ignored me.. And i often fell asleep against the door wiggling my hand under it.It's rough being the third kid ha!

@yoursilverlining: @googly-eyes: yeah, i tried the "put down when drowsy" thing when he was a newborn, and every now and then even up til now. it hasn't worked ONCE. i stressed myself out over it for months, until i realised it didn't matter! i didn't (don't!) mind staying with him til he's asleep right now and he sleeps just fine after that. sometimes it can take an hour for him to be asleep, but i've slowly learnt to be okay with that, haha

I guess my wee girl counts as a toddler now she's twelve months old and walking everywhere!
Miss A has slept through the night a handful of times but she is usually up to nurse once or twice and more often than not I end up in bed with her. The last week has been particularly tough as she's cutting eight (8!) teeth at the moment.

At 2 years old no she doesn't. She's always been a bad sleeper though, there may have been a month or 2 where she did STTN but certainly not now. She wakes up between 3 & 4 consistently, she "fake cries" and yells, I go in make sure she has everything and give her water, then I leave snd let her be. Eventually she falls back to sleep. *yawn*

Since he quit his paci and started teething at 10 months my now 13.5 month old has not been sttn consistently. He usually has 3-5 wake ups. Most of them brief so long as I nurse him. He wakes up and just fusses but if I don't do something he will then sit up and start cryog hysterically. We cosleep with his crib sidecarred so he is always right next to me.

It's horrible. We have a 16.5 month old who will wake 1-2x/night. Last night, she woke up at 10:30 and finally went back to sleep at midnight. She will trick me into thinking she is falling back to sleep and as soon as I move to leave her room WHAMMO - she's up yelling.
The fake cry is the worst. We have started trying to ignore that...we TRY to only go to her when she escalates. On average, she wakes twice a night. She usually needs to nurse at one of those times. My husband keeps asking when we are going to sleep train. I keep ignoring him...

He sleeps through the night usually 5 nights out of the week. Those other two nights are usually wakeups where he needs to be cuddled. I think he's having a bit of separation anxiety lately.
