I have no idea where she got this from but DD has been telling me that there are monsters in our house. So far it's not a big problem but I want to be prepared in case it becomes one. Have you dealt with this?

Oh yes... my lo is obsessed with scary things! My dad let her watch ghostbusters at his house not too long ago and she has the theme song memorized but started having issues going to her room alone so we have stopped all scary things, even scooby doo! The other day she even brought me a drawing of a "werewolf"!

Charlie loves to watch a scary movie called, "The Little Engine that Could." Hollywood remade it and it's actually really scary. Amazon is filled with angry parents upset that their kids couldn't sleep for days after watching it!
The funny thing is that he LOVES the movie and can't get enough of it. I guess he likes scary movies!

Yes! Mrs. Jacks told me that 2 is the age of fear, and so far, DD has definitely proven that! She has been talking about things that are scary and sometimes she tells me there are "scary monsters" hiding around the house. I'm not sure where she got it either? The only monsters she knows about are those on Sesame Street!
Anyway, when she says something is scary, I try to help her examine/investigate it. For example, she told me spider webs are scary, so I took her for a closer look. We talked about how the spider web is the spider's home and I tried to describe it in positive words ("look how it sparkles!" "We have to be gentle because this web is so pretty and delicate; we don't want to ruin it!" etc...).
We also watched an episode of Blues clues together about fears. We talked about how sometimes things are scary when you don't know what they are (like noises), but once you investigate, it's not very scary at all. I also bought her this book (http://www.amazon.com/When-Feel-Scared-Way-Books/dp/0807589004/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1342628114&sr=8-9&keywords=books+to+help+toddler+with+fear), so we'll see if that helps.
I think it is causing problems, in our case, so I'm trying to be proactive and address it from different angles.

Thanks for the tips, Honeybee. My 17 month old just started experiencing fear so I gave her the vocabulary and a makeup sign language for 'scared'. Then i told her, pray, Jesus, brave and made a new sign language for brave which she smiles at.. She repeatedly pushes a noise button on her play microwave even though that scares her. She jumps and makes a scared face and then does it again. It is fascinating to see toddlers attempt to work through their fears. No monsters yet.

@808love: What a great idea to include signs! DD talks pretty well now, but maybe I'll sign scared and brave with her, too. Sometimes she gets so upset she WON'T talk and I didn't even think that signing might be the solution in these situations!

My nieces do, but they don't seem scared of them just that they see them or that they are there. They say they are in the lake but have no problems swimming in there 'with" them.

We do. With three little three year olds we have quite. Few imaginations at work. First the grinch lived in their closet. Then my husband said he would take him back to m crumpet wher h live. Then they said there were monsters in the closet. My husband told them that monster are afraid of snakes. my cousin just bought them big stuffed makes from the zoo so thy sleep with those. Plus I have to go in with "monster spray" which is a spray bottle with water in it.
