We only put on pull ups if we are in the vehicle for a long time and LO may fall asleep since she is not nap/sleep trained or ready. The most successful method for us was to let her run naked and make a huge deal of it when she did use the potty. Also bought small cookies to give a little incentive. I think one of our biggest learning experiences as parents were to realize what kind of personality your child has and work around that. My DD is super stubborn and independent so trying to make her go, was not successful. If you let it be 'her idea', she caught on right away. And i'm rambling

We used pullups for a little bit when we were out of the house. We used cloth trainers at daycare.

We did at first, because I was too nervous to go straight to cloth trainers. I quickly realized that my son didn't treat them any differently than diapers, so we moved on to cloth full time, except for night, where we still use pull ups.

We're still using diapers at night, but do have a pack of Pullups. I'm thinking that we might use them for travel coming up or nap while travel. He still wets the bed during nap, so I'm thinking that a Pullup could help while visiting.

@BeachMama: Do you mean your DD is currently in diapers, and you are wondering if you should introduce pull-ups?

If so, I think it doesn't matter. I do think pull-ups are an essential middle step though even after your DD is trained. It is a more independent way for her to put her own "diaper" on. My son will get out of bed, use the potty, put his pull-up and pants on, wash his hands, and go back to bed. If it is a diaper, he just couldn't always put it on correctly (he'd try to put it on as if it were an underwear), whereas if it were a pull-up it is a higher chance for him to succeed, which means pee won't go allover his bed if he does pee while he's asleep.

If I were you, I would buy really pretty underwear for her now. Order both on Amazon and take her underwear shopping. Let her pick out something that she really likes. After that, just let her pick a pair and let her wear for an hour or so each day (when you have the confidence that she will be able to remain dry during the time). Explain to her that these underwear are so pretty she does not want to make it dirty. It would work. Gradually increase the time she is in underwear if she is able to remain dry longer + use the potty...etc. That's the method that I find successful in home training (I HATED the 3 day method). When she is in underwear most of the time at home, then you can suggest to your daycare to put her in underwear at school too. That step (no pull-ups, only underwear) does give it a push to let her understand she should no longer pee in her pants.

After that, pull up or underwear doesn't matter anymore because she knows it is not cool to pee in her pants.

My daughter still wears them at night because she sometimes wakes up wet. When we were potty training we called them "special car undies" and she knew not to pee in them. I think identifying them as underwear instead of diapers helped.

@LuLu Mom: ding! Exactly! And that's how we put it, too. We say, "Let us know when you have to go pee so we keep Minnie dry!"

We're just kind of floating through right now, though. She pees in pull-ups at home but doesn't at daycare. We need to buckle down and do the 3-day method already.

@LuLu Mom: after. It's always after. Yesterday she told us she was done on the toilet, we let her go pull-up free for a few minutes and she told us after...that she pooped on the carpet. She got off the toilet to poop on the carpet!!!
