Our dog is black and is shedding soooo bad the last few weeks. I Swiffer twice a day because you can see black hairs all over the floor. LO gets it all over her outfit, from the couch/etc and it gets all over her food when she's walking around, yuck! Maybe I should be combing the dog more? Right now I brush her 2x a week. What is the best way to pick up all the fur? Vacuum or Swiffer? Some other magical trick?

I have a white dog with the same problem. I vacuum carpets every other day. Brushing my dog helps during this time of year, too.

It completely grosses me out, and I'm so over it. We got a Shark Lift Away Pro vacuum, and it gets up a lot of hair but it still seems endless.

Furminator! I have one for my cats and love it. Also, high quality food is supposed to reduce shedding as well if you dont already feed your pet that type of food.

I hate the shedding, but it's a never ending battle for us - our great dane sheds SO much. I brush him about 2x a week and vacuum almost every day during this season. It still gets on us, but it's not as bad as it could be.

1. Furminator.
2. We switched to grain-free Blue Buffalo. The fish one in particular gave her a shinier, healthier coat that I think makes her shed less.
3. We actually put her in dog t-shirts, particularly when she's blowing her coat, because I think it keeps excess hair trapped inside the shirt until I have a chance to brush her out with the Furminator.
4. More frequent trips to the groomer when she's blowing her coat. I pay the extra $5 to get extra brushing time with the groomer.

I never thought of the high quality or grain free food as something that would lessen shedding, but hmmm! We do both for other reasons and while he still sheds, for a Golden it's not that bad.
We vacuum, I don't find swiffer gets anywhere near the clean the vacuum does! I'm getting better at not being as insane about it.

We have a yellow Lab and for us, this is a never ending battle. Our dog sheds year round and we wind up with a sheet of yellow hair everyday. My best method of attack is constant vacuuming. Like, 3-4 times a week with the Dyson. I am a bit compulsive about it but trying to get better. Also. We try to brush frequently too.

We use a hardwood vacuum a few times a week and keep the dog out of LO's room and playspace.

Same as everyone else..vac one or two times a day, ugh. It's maddening. And dd is obsessed with rolling on the floor with the dog so she is always covered. And she collects furballs and carries them around. Gag!!

They're shedding their winter coat and it's gross.
We vacuum (remember to use the wand attachment for hidden corners and under cabinets!) and some days I brush her twice. We use the furminator. Take the comforters outside and shake all the hair out!

Another addict to the vacuum. Like @locavore_mama: the wand is key. I go along the base boards every other day because that is where the majority of the hair accumulates.

We just shaved our dog because I couldn't handle the shedding!! Swiffering all day wasn't doing much.. And I feel like dog hair really sticks to baby clothes!!

ok, thanks everyone! going to look into the furminator! hmm maybe I should vacuum too instead of swiffer- only problem is both LO and the dog are deathly afraid of the vacuum lol

@gingerbebe: she gets Taste of the Wild high prarie- which I believe is grain free? luckily her hair doesnt smell at all and is sooo soft- i really think the brand helps that

@NovBaby1112: yeah, my dog is afraid of the vac too. too bad for him LOL. I lock him in the hall while i do the rest of the house, or outside or something. i used to wear LO in the ergo and sing, "woo! vacuum! vroom vroom!" and now she LOVES it. I should actually lock her in the hall too, because she chases the damn thing.

I brush my dog w/ a furminator every other day, or everyday when I know it's shedding season for her. We got a roomba just so it can pick up hair in between vacuuming! We also keep those roller lint tape things everywhere in the house!

@sorrycharlie: haha that's too funny...M is totally afraid of it, like even if I go over to the closet to try and get it out she has this look of terror on her face and comes running over to the door and tries to close it haha. I'll try wearing her and making it fun.

But constant vacuuming helps, and I brush the cat as much as I can and the Lab gets shaved down every year about this time. Having him shaved helps cut down on the sheets of fur floating around the house and keeps him cool for the summer.

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Shedding is a never ending battle in our house. Coupled with my DH's pet allergies....hahahahah needless to say I sweep a lot, but I should vacuum a ton more than I do. We always get the big furballs in the corners.

Furminator brush and shampoo. Its pricey but works.
