Are you putting an announcement wreath, canvas, hanger of some sort, on your hospital door?

Our hospital wouldn't let us for security reasons.

@junebugmama: Hrm - maybe it is a southern thing! sometimes people will put some sort of decorative hanging object on their door that announces the birth stats!
There are some cute ones on Etsy - but I don't feel like paying 60.00 for them!

Nope, I did hang a sign saying not to ring the doorbell or else. lol

@coacheswife123: Maybe it is a southern thing. I always make them for my friends when they have babies. I make them diaper wreaths and include a stat ribbon that I update with the pertinent stats once baby is born. No one made one for my LO and I opted not to buy one from Etsy because like you the $60 price tag was a little steep in my eyes. My dad did buy an "It's a Girl" door ribbon at the hospital which now hangs on the door to our nursery.

@coacheswife123: I'm up north, so that must be why!
I would be afraid that some crazy would take my baby

Ours didn't have the stats but my mom bought a wreath/sign that said "Happy Birthday Zoey!" and when my nephew was born they had a simpler decoration that had his name on it.

Is this kind of like the hospital equivalent of the wooden storks that people put in their front yards in my area? I've noticed that when a baby is born these storks mysteriously appear with the baby's name and stats. I'd be afraid to advertise this to the neighborhood!

@spaniellove: Ditto! I don't like anything that remotely gives away any personal information to strangers (like those dang little people decals that people put on the back of their minivans)

Everyone does this at my hospital. I hope someone remembers to decorate my door! My mom is a teacher, so I'm sure she'll be all over it.

My SIL had a huge mum made since it was the first football game of the college DH and I are alumni of, it had his weight, length name And all that...super cute. We couldn't hang it on the door though.

@highwire: omg, ever since a killer on one season of Dexter used those mini van stick people to stalk and kidnap a pair of children, that's all I can think about when I see those things!!
I've never heard of something at the hospital... Seems excessive when you're only there for 24 hours. It would be cute for a nursery though.

Everyone did this at our hospital. You can buy then in the gift shop!

I've never heard of this
@Pink Champagne: You were only in the hospital for 24 hours? wow most people I know stay 3 days minimum.

My hospital had Christmas stockings with the hospital name hanging on our doors. I took ours home to put up each year for my Christmas baby.

@Pink Champagne: That's hilarious because my mom say to me out of the blue the other day, 'You're not going to get those little figure stickers for the back of your car are you?!' And I was like, 'Uhh, no, why?' And she told me about the Dexter episode.
Never heard of the door decorations but it sounds cute! I don't think people so it around here though.

My DD was born in NY and DS was born in TX. The NY hospital didn't have these and the TX hospital did, I had no idea what they were and my door sat naked. I remember wondering what they heck they were when we went on our hospital tour, but I guess it is a thing!

At my hospital everyone got a standard stork sign on their door but we never even bothered to fill it out!

I want an its a boy or its a girl balloon for our mailbox. DH thought that was weird though. Is that a southern thing too? I moved to Montana from Virginia. Or is it just everyone finds out anymore?

@highwire: HATE those too. or the ones that are like a soccer ball PLUS your childs name PLUS their number??? um hello, you are asking a stalker to come up and call your child by name - making it believable that they are not a stranger!!

They are very common in my hospital! I had a friend make mine! Here is a pic, it had his name, date, height, and weight.
