I've seen posts about doulas and was wondering if you had one, where did you find her/him?
I've seen several websites, but want to research reputable ones. I don't have friends with babies nearby and don't have personal references... what do you recommend?

I"m excited to see the responses about this-- I did not hire a doula for my first delivery but I will definitely hire one for the next delivery. I didn't think it was necessary since I was planning on an epidural, but after all my epidural failures, I'd definitely love to have a doula to bring me as far as possible before pain intervention, and in case it happens again.

I had a doula but mine was provided through the midwifery I go to. She wasn't really there to help me keep my birthding plan since pain meds and all that aren't even available there but she was great coaching me through labor, helping me with my back labor and getting me what I needed so my husband could stay with me. I loved her and I kinda wish I could have her again but I don't think we can afford it.

I asked my OB for any that she had worked with in the past. I mentioned that I wanted a doula who was familiar with the hospital/hospital policies where I planned to deliver. She gave me an agency name and the next step was to meet a few available for around my due date for meet n greets to see if we "synched" well.

My husband and I are actually interviewing 2 doulas this weekend and one next weekend. I don't have any friends who have used doulas so I checked online.
I'm in NYC so I found two different "doula agencies" who work in tiers--the higher tier, the more births the doula has been at and more additional experience, such as hypnobirthing, yoga, lactation, etc. For instance, in tier 1 are usually doulas who have been to 0-3 births and are recently certified or working on certification. Both agencies put me in touch with doulas who had availability around my due date.
Maybe there's an agency where you live? I'm sure you can ask for references, too.
