They're half Chinese so absolutely.

LO will hopefully be enrolled in Russian classes at 4 or 5. We could have started this year, but I think with also starting preschool it would have been too much.

No, we will not be doing language lessons separate from school until my son is older and/or asks for it. My husband speaks his native language to our son and right now, we're working on transitioning our family language to that from English.

She's started Spanish at preschool. We won't put her in any foreign language programs outside of what's already part of her schooling.

DH and I are both Korean, and DH really wants our son to know the language, so yes.

@catlady: how did you find out about it?

@regberadaisy: It's just one of the options for public schools in our city. There are a few immersion programs in various languages at the different elementary schools, and a few others where the students aren't total immersion but still get language lessons starting from K. I was just looking up info about pre-K and K here and found out about them.

Like @regberadaisy: I speak Chinese to DS now so I definitely plan on putting him in Chinese school as he gets older. I speak Canto to him now. He'll learn Mandarin in Chinese school. However, I tend to mix dialects in when teaching DS a word. I recently accidentally taught DS to say bird in Hokkien instead of Canto. I didn't realize it till he repeated it to me, then I was like oops!

DS is doing a mixed English + Spanish immersion program at his preschool next year (he's 3 years old in October) - 3 days of English, 2 days of Spanish a week. I think it sounds like fun!

They have dual immersion in my school district because we have a really large Hispanic population, so she'll be exposed to that. I hope she'll learn Hebrew too, but it isn't really that marketable.

My daughter is in French immersion which is full day french through grade 5, but nothing outside of school.

I speak Greek, but there is no way in hell I would willingly take DD to Greek school. I went from age 4 - 17 and it was absolute torture! I speak Greek in front of her, she uses some Greek words instead of English and I think thats fine. I get slammed by people all the time as to why I wouldn't take her to Greek school, and the argument tends to be "how will she know how to speak Greek when she goes on holiday in Greece?". If thats the only reason then I will pass unless she asks to go herself!

@Eminthevalley: the elementary school where we used to live in SD had a dual language spanish/english program and i would have absolutely signed DD up!

as of now, i have no idea where we'll be living for school, but it's definitely something that would be a plus/i would enroll her in as part of her school offerings, but not an extra class at this point.

He's in a German/English bilingual daycare. One of the teachers is an English native speaker and the other German. Other than that there are no additional classes planned.
