how old was your LO before they "got" drawing?
i am very much a doodler and i'm excited for when LO is old enough to "get" it, and draw with me.
he's 14 months now, and i get the crayons out and draw in front of him regularly, but he still doesn't get it. he likes to throw the crayons, but he wont touch the paper with them!

I just looked at old pics and we have some from 1 day shy of 14 months old.
I just put paper on the floor and gave her crayons and let her scribble.

DD is 15 months and knows the concept, but doesn't do it very well. No doodling yet, just some random scribbles.

I forgot, but I think it was pass a year? He was and has been obsessed with "drawing" since. I am just bummed why all crayons say 3 and above when clearly they are ready way earlier.

@chrispygal: i would be happy with scribbles right now, haha. he loves the paper with my drawings on it, and he loves playing with the crayons, but wont put them near each other!
@chopsuey: cute! I guess I just have to be a bit more patient!
@irene: eh, maybe it makes me a terrible parent, but I don't put much stock in the age recommendations of things. our crayons say 24 months+

Ds is 18 months and loves drawing now. In the beginning he actually did better with markers because he didn't have to put much pressure on it to make marks on the paper. I think it helped him make the connection. Now he loves using anything to draw.

I would say between 12-15 months? At first she did a lot of dots more than scribbles, and I had to watch her to keep her from eating the crayons. Now at 22 months she "draws". For everyone's birthday etc, so keep at it!

@creativemomma15: that's a good idea! maybe next time i'm out I'll pick up some markers. I've been wanting some for myself anyway, haha!

J loves to draw! We started just before his first birthday. He's 22 months and draws the letter "O" and faces (circle with two little eye circles). He tells me about what he's drawing, "o! O, mama" and "eyes, eyes, mama, dada" so I know he gets it. It's pretty cute!

I think around 13 months she "got" drawing/scribbling. She is 16 months and sometimes I catch her still nomming on the crayons a bit, but she also loves to draw all over paper....the table....books...the floor...my laptop....the sofa...haha, you get the picture! Washable crayons, FTW!!!
Daycare started including her in art projects at 5 months, so she was no stranger to crayons.

@Penny Lane: I think the age suggestion is just to cover their (manufacturer) butts. As long as we watch them it is OK! I just hate it when I have to go through such a guilt trip when I am buying them in the store (thinking to myself shoot, maybe I shouldn't buy it because the suggested age is 3....etc)
And if you ever experienced this (see photo... what happened after I responded to that odd noise 10 seconds late), toothbrush and toothpaste is your best friend. I didn't even know crayons can be completely removable until a few weeks ago (top one is before, bottom one is after). And of course, watch your LOs like a hawk. Do not trust them. Ever..... Well, maybe after 3? (hence the age suggestion lol)

Our daughter is 18 months, and she has been "drawing" for several months now. She loves it! She often doesn't press on the paper hard enough with her crayons to make much of a mark, but that doesn't stop her from trying to draw!

At least 18 months before he started to "get" scribbling and stopped eating and throwing crayons. I just started keeping those big chunky crayons or a pen and paper out on the coffee table. I've found that heavy cardstock paper is easiest for him to manipulate since it doesn't slide around as much.

DD is 15.5 months and has been interested in playing with a pen very recently. I'm hesitant to take out the markers/crayons again because if she eats them like she did before, it'll be a lot harder to take them away since she's learned to tantrum

He started scribbling around 14 months. And it was one of the milestones my ped asked about during his 15 month checkup.

At 16 months, she mostly just stabs at the paper and sometimes makes lines with the crayons. Unfortunately, she prefers to eat them than draw with them and I'm not buying the edible ones so...we're waiting a while to do this at home.

@lemondrop: to stop paper from sliding around on the coffee table, we use painter's tape to secure it to the table. The painters tape won't ruin your table surface!
