My SIL is getting married in Sept and I am at a total loss about what to wear! I have looked at Jcrew, Ann Taylor, Nordstrom (online only since I am in Canada), mod cloth, and some local shops too but I am coming up empty handed.
Bridesmaids are in an eggplant purple, the guys (incl my husband) are in charcoal. I have no idea what to wear! Anyone have any cute dress ideas? Bonus points for links!!

I would have thought between JCrew and Ann Taylor, you'd have a lot of options...is it that you want something with more coverage than those stores typically have?
I would choose a light gray color, I think it would complement and not compete.

Maybe take another look at Nordstrom? That's my go-to for wedding wear. They have a new feature on their website that allows you to input information about your body and then it tells you which size to order in a particular dress, or if that dress won't work for your body.
It's hard to know what to look for without knowing more about your body type, but what about something like this:

I am allll about a LBD! Buy a nice high end one and you can wear it to multiple things- just jazz it up with some cute statement jewelry!

Definitely an LBD! You will get tons of wear out of it and it doesn't have to be really basic. I really like the first option that Blackbird posted.

Check out the American Living line at Macy's and JcPenney's. JCP has the best sales (so many online codes). I've purchased a bunch of American Living dresses in my size online and had them fit perfectly.

@septca: Truth-I LOVE that last dress you posted, but I was worried when I read the reviews from older women. Does it look like a grandma outfit? And the first one is gorgeous too, but my SIL doesn't like lace, which shouldn't impact my decision but it totally is!
@cheert16: I like this idea too--do you have any examples? I feel like I am an expert at casual clothes and feeling a little stupid trying to sort out dress outfits!

@bunnylove08: I am not looking for a casual dress (or at least what I consider casual--nothing that would fall in the 'sundress' category!), I am willing to spend more than normal, but probably not more than say...$400? Ish? And I generally don't feel that I look good in long dresses, so around knee length (not tea length though!)....
I am surprised that I couldn't find anything that I could imagine wearing at Ann Taylor or JCrew. I am so disconnected from the world of clothes these days!

I love Macys.com - its so much easier than going through their racks and you can return to the store.
My go-to wedding outfits are stretch lace dresses. Comfy and forgiving but formal looking.

@septca: Yes! That's why! It was a top contender and then I saw that, and wondered if I would look crazy. What do you think about the dove colour? Too white? I was also wondering about navy, though my MIL is wearing navy as well...I think.
