We bought a drinking water one, we have a dog and a garden in addition to a baby who will drink from it and play on the water so we decided it was worth the extra cost. Was it necessary? No clue but I feel better knowing I at least tried. I do know that around here kids frequently have slightly elevated lead levels because of old houses so I figure better to just know I took care of one source of lead in advance.

Just a garden hose. Not that I expect her to be drinking from it that often. I did, growing up on the farm, but we were often playing far from the house. Not really going to be an issue in our small backyard.

Just a regular hose - didn't even know it's a thing..?

@sorrycharlie: I have to say you reminded me to order another test kit! I tested the house after we moved in but it had been freshly repainted, now it's chipping and we have a crawling baby!

That is hilarious! We just use the normal hose for drinking. It worked for our grandparents just fine.

I actually think of myself as pretty cautious about such things, and I think this is a crazy gimmick. We just use a regular hose. That we store on the ground in the gross. Oh well.

@sorrycharlie: if you have to get one anyway, it makes sense. But I definitely wouldn't buy it as a designated hose for drinking from (or whatever).

I just have a plain regular hose that I let our dogs drink out of!

@sorrycharlie: I have always used a regular hose and my concern would be about the longevity of a hose that's not really meant to sit outside like that in the elements like a regular garden hose is.

My girls drink from our regular garden hose.

We use a regular hose as well. I wouldn't go out of my way or pay more for a drinking water hose.

I never heard of this before today! I never would have considered drinking out of a hose unsafe.

@sorrycharlie: i get your reasoning behind it, so i don't think it's crazy, but will that kind of hose hold up to the elements? i'm thinking of FIL's hose similar to that for his toy hauler and i don't think it would last against the rain and sun? and you get a lot of snow, so at that point, you'd probably unplug the thing and store it, right? so my concern would be having to buy a new one more often.

@sorrycharlie: there is seriously nothing weird about getting a quality hose. I have known about this for a long time... I thought it was pretty common knowledge, but whatevs!
