I've heard olive oil is good to rub on baby's scalp to help with dry skin. Does it work? Any advice?

Yes. Or baby oil. Let soak for 15-20 minutes, then wash out with baby soap/shampoo at bathtime and then backbrush to loosen the now softened scalp patches. (Cure for cradle cap)

Yep. We used olive oil for LO's cradle cap and dry scalp. Worked wonders.

@mrsjazz: you put the olive oil on, work the flakes with a brush and then shampoo right? After washing though, do you put anything on LOs hair or do you just leave dry?

@plantains: I would do exactly what @pastemoo: wrote, I put the olive oil on her head about 10-15 minutes prior to her bath time and then use the brush and shampoo. I didn't put anything on afterwards. Her scalp looked gross for a bit, but that cleared it all up.
I did use Selsun Blue as per my pediatrician's suggestion but I didn't like the thought of getting it in her eyes so I went the natural route.
Once the cradle cap and dry patches went away, I started using a bit of coconut oil on her scalp.

My lo had bad cradle cap so we used mustela foam shampoo for newborns. Worked well.

@mrsjazz: perfect. Thanks, I think my mistake has been putting stuff on after.

I actually bought this new baby oil lotion that I rubbed on her scalp. I went over it with a soft brush and let it sit. Then washed it out with shampoo and a comb to loosen some of her dry patches. He hair seemed wicked oily but her dry scalp drank it in overnight. Haven't had to do it since!
