I'm 5 months pp, and I noticed some spotting last night. I thought that meant AF was coming today, but so far, just a couple dots and nothing else. I'm a WOHM so I pump 3x at work and EBF when I'm home with DS. Is AF on her way or what's going on????
Pre-pregnancy, I never spotted. AF would just come hot and heavy.

I had on and off spotting and a couple hours of flow at 7 months. I think when your period comes back it can be unpredictable/different than before.

I got my full on period at 2 months PP but I have also had spotting and nothing before. Probably just means you had enough going on to almost ovulate but not enough to really get started. I would always take a pregnancy test too though to be safe.

@Smurfette: Did you just spot randomly or did AF show up shortly after spotting started? If you spotted randomly, when did AF officially show up?

@Alivoo01: I started to log it in a period tracker app but it was random. I weaned the end of October. Then in November had cramps for the first time but still just spotting. Then Sunday I had cramps again, and Monday had the first real flow. But it still was nothing like what I had before baby. I have an IUD so it supposed to make me not really have a period.

I hate to share my story because it sucks, but here goes: I bled for a long time (maybe 8 weeks) after delivery, and then would have short bouts of spotting every once in a while. Turns out I had retained placenta. Had to have a D&C, but after that the spotting stopped completely. This is pretty rare, but if you continue to have spotting without any PMS/O symptoms, you might want to call your doctor.
My first pp AF came at 10.75 months and there was no mistaking it. No spotting beforehand, just straight up ugly flow.

@Alivoo01: I got my period pretty much right away, and it's definitely different than pre child birth. So, maybe your body is a little off as well? If you think you might be pregnant, than I'd suggest taking a HPT.

@littlek: We haven't DTD and there's zero chances of me being preggo.
@septca: I also bled for 8 weeks post delivery. Then had crazy/weird discharge for another few weeks or so! But no spotting till last night. However, when we try to DTD, it's always uncomfortable like he's "hitting" something... I'll keep my eye on this spotting. Thanks for sharing your story!

When I got my period back the first time was weird. I've heard it referred to as a warning period. It was one instance of a good amount of blood, then very light spotting for a day, then nothing. I got my real first period about 50 days later and it was normal. Maybe it's just a warning period.

@Alivoo01: lo is 10 weeks old and I just got my first postpartum period. I had spotting a month ago and thought AF was coming, but I had a little longer to wait.

My midwife said it was normal to have breakthrough bleeding while EBF. I thought my period came back at 6 weeks P&P, but it's been nothing more than heavy spotting.

@JerricaBenton: @Jennimac: Guess I'll keep an eye out for the REAL AF next month or so... I just hate this feeling of needing to know to wear a pad or not! I want to be prepared, but don't want to wear a pad every single day if it's not necessary!

For the last two months, I've gotten a day or two of moderate spotting - exactly 28 days apart. I'm also EBFing. Thought it would stay away longer than that.

@Alivoo01: You bet! On one hand, I'd be thrilled (because my PCOS cycles before pregnancy were like 75 days long). But on the other hand...AF would be back lol.
