If you were EBF, did your LO's STTN signal a return for AF? Wondering about the correlation. How many hours was your LO STTN when AF returned? *sorry for all the acronyms!*

This was not the case for me. DS didn't sleep through the night until he was just over 1 year and prior to that he was waking up at least 2-3 times per night to nurse. AF came back when DS was 10 months.

LO was sleeping a long stretch (12am - 5am) from 2 months. AF came back at 3.5 months PP, and by that time he had stretched his long sleep to 10pm - 5/6am, then would feed and sleep again til 8 or 9.
so depending on your definition of STTN, he probably was STTN for at least a month before AF came back

I have Mirena so I really shouldn't get my period but I had spitting off and on like 4 days last week, really bloated, and cramping so I wonder if I had a cycle. She is pretty much sleeping 7-5, nurses, and back to sleep till 630/700.

Yes, we cobedded until 11.5 months, where she nursed whenever she wanted during the night. When we crib trained, she started sleeping from 7-5 (at least) and my period returned a month later.

LO started sleeping 12 hour stretches overnight at 2.5 months and was EBF. I didn't get AF back until 8.5 months pp. For me, the return of AF correlated with an increase in solids.

LO started sttn at around 6.5 months and no AF yet. she is a little over 9 months now. crossing my fingers that it'll stay away until we wean!

Dd and DS both started sttn (8-12hrs) at around 2 months old.
I got my period back at 7 months pp with dd.
I'm 7 months pp now and no sign of AF

My periods returned before my LOs STTN. I also pump when my LO is asleep.

LO STTN for 12 straight at 11 weeks. I got AF back when she was just under six months - three days after we started solids.

My LO has been sleeping 12 hours a night since 3 months old and I just got my period at 9 months pp. she's barely nursing at her last session before bed though.

LO had been doing 6-7 hours in a row for about 1 month when AF returned at 8 months pp;.

I'm on the mini pill, so not sure I'll see AF show up at all, will I? Xander's been STTN (7+ hours) for 2 months now. I'm curious if I go off the mini pill if AF will return.

YES. this was definitely the case for me. We sleep trained at 6 months and just about 2 weeks later he started STTN on his own, and right away AF returned... the sucky part was he regressed at 7.5 months and didn't go back to STTN until he was a year old - so it wasn't even a great tradeoff!

@shopaholic: it was the case for us even though we were supplementing one bottle of formula a day!
LO started STTN around 7.5 months; her average night sleep was around 10.5 hours. Around 9 months my period came back.

@Adira: I am also on the mini-pill, but AF returned anyway.
AF returned at 5 months pp before we started solids and LO is still not STTN. Ugh.

@Cain13: Oh, really??? I wasn't really sure how the mini pill worked and if I'd get AF on it or not. Sounds like it doesn't prevent you from getting it though! Bummer.

LO started sleeping 6-7 hours around 6-8 weeks. I thought I got AF back at 3 months pp... But now LO is almost 10 months & no AF since... She's sleeping 10-12 hours and I'm only nursing 2-3 times a day. Weird?!?!

@Adira: I am also on the mini pill and I get AF but it was back before I started taking it.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@autumnlove: Okay, so presumably if AF is coming back, she'll come back regardless of the mini pill or not? Not that it matters... I'm hoping to go off the mini pill in another month assuming I can convince Hubs.

Yes, absolutely this was the way it happened for me. Also throw solids in the mix.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
For me, my LO has been STTN for the past month or so. Still no AF. I'm 8 months PP.
pomegranate / 3383 posts
Not the case at all for me. I didn't get AF back until one month after we weaned (13 months pp) and my LO STTN at 5.5 months.

@autumnlove: wahhh!!! That sucks!
@Ree723: @oliviaoblivia: Oh! I forgot about the correlation possibility with starting solids!
Is it bad I can't even remember when to count LO STTN from? Some nights she won't wake up at all, some nights she wakes 2xs, but most is just 1x in 12 hours.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
Yes, it did for me. LO started sleeping through the night (from 7pm to 6am) for awhile around 5.5 months and AF returned shortly after that. Now LO is waking up again sometimes in the night to nurse, but AF is still back. Lame!
ETA, she started solids soon after she turned 6 mo.

@shopaholic: no correlation here. noelle slept through the night (defn: 10+ hours) since she was 5 months old and AF didn't return until she was 13 months (2 months after i completely weaned).
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
totally rang true for me.
A started STTN (11+ hours, night weaned) at 12 weeks, AF came back about a month later at 4.5 months!
nectarine / 2878 posts
This was not the case for me. DS was STTN for several months before AF came. I think it was because I spaced out his feedings during the day at 9 months.
cherry / 206 posts
AF returned at 6 months, LO didn't sleep through the night until 9 months but we did sleep train between 4-6 months to get LO down to 1 feeding at night.
grapefruit / 4291 posts
Miss A is nine months and has slept anywhere from 6-11 hours most nights since two months and no AF here.
