DS has been sleeping next to us since birth and at our two month appt his pediatrician said it was time to move him to his own room. He will be 3 months on Tuesday and we've not changed a thing! He wakes up a lot at night and DH is obsessed with being able to check in him- making us put off the transition each night. I'd like to finally just make the move tonight but I'm scared! Any advice or encouragement greatly appreciated!!

It's so tough!! My DH was the one that said it was time...LO was sleeping next to our bed in our room until about 5 months!! We didn't do the move till we transitioned to the crib.
It wasn't bad, took some time to get used to - LO did great, it was tough on me because I liked having him right next to me - but ultimately I started sleeping much better having him in his own room!

@knittylady: We might do it tonight, too! At his 2 month checkup the doc said his head was a little lopsided from the RNP so we should transition him to his crib and switch the sides he sleeps on every week. He turns 12 weeks tomorrow and he is still at the foot of our bed!
My DH, like yours, is really hesitant to move him. I don't want his head to get worse though so we have to try it.
We can support each other through this!

@rahlyrah: we moved LO around 14 weeks i think. We were nervous especially dh but we had a good monitor and it all worked out fine. The best encouragement i can give you is that the first night in her own room, LO slept 7 hours straight! Good luck!

It was super easy for us. We moved from a 1br to a 2br when DS was 2 months. We put him in his room the first night and he was fine. I mean, he was still waking up all the time, but it wasn't any different from when he was in our room.

We moved LO at 8 weeks and she did great. She slept a lot better (and so did we) because we weren't waking each other up with our sleep noises. She was STTN at that point though, so it wasn't too bad. Good luck! If it doesn't work, no biggie, just try again.

By the time our little guy hit 1 month, we were ready to kick him out so we could all sleep better... and boy did we!! His little noises and movements didn't have me constantly on edge, yes he still got me up several times, but my sleep in between was so much better. We got an audio monitor, so I knew we would hear him, since I was worried I'd sleep through him waking (turns out I could hear him just fine without it!)
You can always set an alarm to get up and check on him, or start out the night in his room and move him to yours part way through.

Why does your ped think he needs to move? It hi k you should keep him with you as long as you want! We made the transition a couple of weeks ago at 7 1/2 months. It was super easy for my LO, just scary for me! He had already been taking naps in his crib and going down in his crib at the beginning of the night (before a dream feed).

Don't feel any pressure to move your son until you're ready to. For us it happened at 4 months, and I would have waited for longer if DD didn't have a bedroom right next door to ours.
Once we did move her to her own room, I got the best night of sleep I had in months. It was worth it in the end, but there's not need to rush it!

We moved our daughter out of our room around 10 weeks, I think. And yes, it was hard, BUT it was amazing for our sleep since I wasn't springing out of bed at every noise she made, convinced that she needed to eat/have her diaper changed/etc.
However, if you're truly not ready, don't push it. You need to be comfortable with the arrangement in order to be a happy mom

My DS is almost 4 months and I keep putting off moving him to his own room. I totally get what you're going through! My DH is sooo ready to move him but we made a deal that he doesn't move until we buy a monitor! DH is so busy he hasn't gotten around to getting the monitor yet but it'll be soon.

We moved our daughter at 4 weeks because she was such a noisy sleeper!! She did fine, didn't even notice. It was harder on me than her for sure, but it only took a couple of nights to feel better

We moved our son at 14 weeks and he slept much better in his own room. We went from waking every 1 1/2 hours to a four hour stretch followed by every 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Plus I'm able to put him down awake in his crib which I couldn't do in the pnp. I hope it goes well for you! I do check the monitor obsessively, lol

We didn't transition 'til 6 months and it was pretty easy. She had been sleeping in a PnP in our room so it may be that the transition is easier than from a RnP. She slept awesome the first night in her crib and it's been good since. It was harder for me for sure! I'm still trying to sleep and not stay up all night looking at the monitor!
