I would do an enema. I pooped when i was pushing because i had already been in active labour for 15 hours. So embarrassing.

I was induced and didn't take an enema. I didn't poop either. Better safe than sorry though!

Hell to the no! I didn't poop for the entire 48 hours of my labor, so far as I can remember. If I did, everyone just hid it from me. Even if you do an enema, more poop might come along. I don't think they're standard practice any more.

I wasn't induced, but there's no way I would do that. I was already having all kinds of bodily function issues by that point....I didn't need any help.

I was induced, but did not give myself an enema. Right before we started pushing, I looked at DH and told him that if I pooped, I didn't not want to know, did not need to know. The nurse got a laugh but I have no idea if I did or didn't. I didn't feel it if I did.

Not induced, but I pooped on the table, more than once. Whatever, it was a non-issue, the nurses cleaned it up super fast. I just wanted the baby out, I didn't care about the details.

I was induced but never told to have an enema. I think I read a while back that it used to be a standard practice but it's now considered outdated.

I wasn't told to, and didn't do it...And I didn't poop on the table!
I only had 3 real pushes though...

I had an unplanned induction, so I did not do this . . . I didn't poop on the table, either.

thanks ladies! Not something I want to do and not something my doctor told me to do specifically. Maybe it is just on the paper from a long time ago - haha! I think I'm going to skip it!

I was induced (not planned, just after my fluid check was low), so I didn't give myself one. I pooped and couldn't care less, honestly. I "felt" it while I was on the table and it was no big deal. The hubs didn't even know I did until I joked about it afterwards.

I've had to do enemas for other procedures and they are EASY PEASY.

@blackbird: did they make you "go" all day long?? or just flush you out one good time? blah!

@ladyfingers: I know! my friend who delivered at the same hospital said her nurse told he to just ignore it because they are kind of pointless! Not sure why they haven't updated their materials!

I never had an enema and didn't poop either. I say, do what your comfortable with, I'm sure they have seen worse!

My mom said that they gave you an enema when she was having us. She soooooooo didn't want it, so refused to go into the hospital until after her water broke (I guess then it's too late for an enema).

@coacheswife123: Haha so weird! When we had our childbirth class (at the hospital) the instructor was saying that your body will usually clear itself out before labor so a big poop is a good sign, and she's like, that's why we don't make you get enemas anymore, because we now know that it's unnecessary. I don't really care if I poop in labor anyway, to be honest. I just don't want to know about it

@ladyfingers: i know! If it happens I just don't want to know! And I haven't been having any trouble in that area lately, if you know what I mean, so I think it may be moot for me to do! I don't think I'm going to trouble myself with it!

@coacheswife123: I KNOW. When my husband tells me I am so hot carrying his child, I am like, really? You are... weird.

@ladyfingers: I know. major tmi but in the middle of the night I get up to pee and the bathroom is in our bedroom and EVERY time I have the worst gas when I sit down to go. He has never mentioned it but I know he hears it - ahahahaaha! Nothing is sacred anymore!

@coacheswife123: OMG ME TOO and he laughs at me every time. The other night I got up to pee and I didn't have any gas and when I got to bed he mumbled, "That was a really lame one." He thinks it's HILARIOUS! He was especially impressed the one time that I had gas right in the middle of peeing.

@coacheswife, well, you definitely do not go all day, lol. You may be in the bathroom for like, 20 minutes but it's definitely a quick process! It only loosens up the bottom of your stools. Kind of a domino effect. It's not miserable or anything.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@ladyfingers: haha - that is hilarious!! I don't even have the energy to be embarrassed anymore!

@coacheswife123 & @ladyfingers: I am CRACKING up! LMBO!!!! Only because I am right there with you!
So true, so true!!!!
Yeah I would not worry about the enema...especially if you have not had a prob in that dept. LOL Im totally on board with what your saying. I am not worried seeing as recently I have been more "regular"....I think the body def preps you. If you do go while in labor I imagine either you wont know, or if you do...you wont care!

@Rescuemom10: at least we are all in this together! haha! and yes, that will probably be the least of my worries at that point!

i was induced and never told i should give myself an enema..never made it to pushing(c-section) so no pooping for me!! haha

@coacheswife123: So true right? Gotta love it. One of the many things I love about HB. No one knows better than those going through it or having been through it recently. Haha! That and "TMI" is pretty much never TMI in these boards...ita all out there, the dirty truth it is! Love it.

I was scheduled to be induced (ended up going into labor on my own) and I was never instructed to do an enema. But I will say I took a big poop like 5 minutes before contractions started! And I did not poo during labor and delivery (or for like four days afterwards!) Enemas really aren't bad though. I've had to do them for a procedure to check my colon. You definitely don't go all day. Just once or twice in the 30 minutes after you do the enema.
