I know the feeling. We recently ended up spending over $1,500 on some old termite damage we found in our house. NOT what I wanted to do when we're planning to move to a bigger home soon and trying to save for that!

There is always something, money wise. If it isn't one of the cars, it is a medical bill. Or a vet bill. Or a last minute flight that needs booked for a family situation. Or our house got reassessed and we owe a thousand dollars in back real estate taxes. Or whatever. I think I sort of accept that this is how life is… we keep a running slush fund for whatever emergency inevitably pops up time and again.

@.twist.: ((hugs!!)) i'm right there with ya! it sounds ghetto, but have you called a junkyard to see it the part is available from one of their salvage vehicles for less? lots of dead cars get sent off to pasture and they still have good parts.

everything around seems to be falling apart (our cars, my macbook pro charger i replaced a couple weeks ago with an after market one is already dying, my cell phone screen is held together with tape ATM), i forgot our ins started up again last month (we pay 10 months out of the year) and didn't put enough in checking & got an overdraft fee, and for some reason we had 2 electric meter reading bills. ugh. kitty, oh sick kitty and his never ending expenses and my ILs are back in full force which is just overwhelming and fueling my stress level. it's kind of sad, people around me have developed the mantra of, 'at least i'm not <mrs. bird>!' because seriously, everything near me just turns to shit & it sucks.

I just look at those things as ongoing bills. I wish I could just buy a car and be done or go to the dentist and be good to go or buy clothes and they would last. DH blows through shoes at his job like nobody's business! Everything is like an ongoing bill...

I'll commiserate on the money pit aspect! We scraped and saved to go on our belated honeymoon last month, and while we were on said honeymoon, our dog ended up needing to have emergency surgery - which cost virtually the same amount as our honeymoon. Whomp whomp.

@.twist.: I took a prescription muscle relaxer earlier this weel and it didn't do anything, unfortunately sorry to dump crap on your thread. I just needed to vent.

I can't believe that piece of plastic costs $350 that royally sucks!!

@.twist.: I did visit a chiro after the last time this happened and it did seem to help a little. Unfortunately with my husband being unavailable to cover with the kids this week, I haven't even been able to try and get an appointment. It is just incredibly sore from continually re-straining it as I run around with the kids, and I never get a chance to rest it. I have heard a lot of clicking and popping too so I should probably see a chiro.. Maybe ill get to next week sometime.

I totally know what you mean about taking one step forward and a million steps back though. There we were priding ourselves for managing to take a honeymoon on our already limited budget and then WHAMMO that money x 2 disappeared. Ack!!!!

My dog is completely worth it, don't get me wrong, but I was definitely left feeling like, "Dear life, are you serious?"

Yep, there is always always always something unexpected coming up. I know there's supposed to be a line in your budget for crap like that, but HOW?! Our attic re insulation was supposed to cost us $1000 and ended up costing $5000, putting us right back into the debt that we worked so hard to get out of.

Ugh, yes. We had a pipe burst and ruin our basement. It's covered by insurance but we still have to pay the deductible. We also had an unexpected tax bill because my husband's work didn't withhold enough. Blah. I'm with ya!

@.twist.: it's a very depressing low five, lol We have had car issues this month too. DH's car is dying. I was so proud to have paid off a credit card last month, and of course we had to use it to pay for the tow and repairs. BOO. And we will really need to replace his vehicle soon, but there is NO room in the budget for a second car payment. UGH. Plus he's going out of town next week - $$$, we both need major dental work - $$$$$$, LO always needs new stuff - $$$. The list goes on and on and on ....
We are going to file taxes tonight. That will determine my mood for the rest of the month!

@.twist.: yes I'm doing ice and heat alternating! Just recently learned that when I sprained my back (don't ask)... Tell your DH thanks!! When I first hurt my neck on Sunday the worst pain was the transition between the heat and ice so I did not do it for very long, but now both feel good so I'm going back and forth. And so is LMW because she obviously needs to steal whatever I'm holding....

Absolutely. Its always one thing or another. We're struggling to get to the amount we determined we wanted to save before moving home. We made it last month... and then promptly had to give my university $3k.

We had to put a decent chunk into my car last summer (my muffler fell off as I was driving! Fun times!) and then DH's in November, so I totally feel you on the cars being money pits.
