Does anyone have experience with Atrial Fibrillation?
I’m currently in the ER awaiting test results, but my heart rate is still all over the place and didn’t respond to the IV meds they gave me. I think the next step is an electric charge to attempt to reset my heartbeat.... trying not to freak out.

A fib is actually fairly common and can be controlled with medication or they can do surgery to try to correct it. Just depends what’s going on. Once they cardiovert you and you’re stable they can go over the options. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this and I know it’s scary especially to be at the hospital during these times but you will get through this and be ok!

I have been there, ambulance ride from urgent care to ER...I'm sorry, I know it is scary. You are in good hands. I ended up on a monitor for a while then a full workup at cardiologist. This was 10 years ago or so, TBH I don't remember many of the medical nuances and have had a clean bill of health since.

My coworker had this about a month ago and went to ER, did a holter monitor and saw a cardiologist. She’s younger, mid 20’s with a family history of heart disease so she was super scared. Somehow it resolved on its own and they never found a reason. Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you all for your replies. I had the cardioversion just over three hours ago and it worked so now I am home and resting. I have a follow up with a cardiologist on Tuesday, but blood tests and X-ray done in the ER don’t show any immediate cause for (ongoing) concern or an underlying cause. Was definitely scary, but the nurses and doctors were absolutely amazing, and I have even more respect and gratitude for them now than I did before.
