Has anyone seen anything to say whether plastic face shields could be used instead of cloth face masks? Someone posted the other day concerned that infants wouldn't be seeing facial expressions and I am trying to determine if clear plastic shields are an acceptable alternative.

So a coworker of mine was looking for a seamstress to sew a mask that actually had a plastic panel over the mouth (she is working with a deaf patient who reads lips at an acute rehab facility and needs the patient to be able to see her mouth). I haven’t looked at this at all but perhaps google could help here?

This article by an infectious disease professor went viral recently, and I found it really helpful in understanding how the virus moves through the air and thus what might be an okay situation vs. riskier. Not necessarily mask related, but just generally a good read to understand how to consider questions like this when they pop up, at least for me!
