Articles, pictures, whatever, I always share. Maybe it's because I'm so used to citing my sources through school, but you should always give credit where it's due. Also I never share pictures unless they are of me or my DH as I think that's weird. I would ask if it were of someone else.

I don't think there is that much of a difference to be honest. I noticed my MIL shared a picture of my son and there were comments I couldn't read b/c of her friend's privacy settings. So even though it was "my shared" photo I had the same rights as if it were independently posted.

Like you said, anything that is on facebook is public so I don't think it is something that is worth thinking twice about..... with your dad / BIL at least. If it was someone less directly related I would think it was weird!

I think it's pretty weird for someone to repost my pic regardless. But if it MUST be done, definitely "shared" and not saved/reposted.

I hate the sharing function because it overrides custom security settings. I don't share other peoples photos and I rarely post pictures of LO anymore because neither set of grandparents really get facebook and I don't want her photos shared all over the place.

ETA: I don't blame either set of grandparents, its just a general frustration with social media. And facebook's attitude to privacy.

I think if you want people to see something, then the share button should be used and credit should be totally given. I have a fb/ig friend that steals everyone's stuff they post and reposts it as her own. She even took a picture of another friends niece, cropped her head out of it and posted it because she wanted to share the onesie she had on! Soooo not okay in my book!

@Corduroy: same here. And one of my SILs is using another one.

I would typically share if I wanted my friends to see it, but unless it's of me, DH, or LO, I wouldn't do it.

if it was one of my parents i would not think it is weird. I figure they want as many pics of their grandkids as possible and so i would have no problem with what you described, If anyone outside of immediate family did this, i would think it is weird.

my mom did drive me batty for a while when she would post pics to facebook that i privately EMAILED her! but eventually i had to get over that and if there is a pic i really don't want on facebook, i don't email it to her!

Yeah, I think the right way to do it is to share. My mum drove me nutty when we first had E because she used to tag herself in the photo so that it appeared on her page. YOU WEREN'T THERE!!!! It really wasn't a big deal but it bugged me so much!!
